Around a decade back in India, I used to see a lot of young and goodlooking direct sales representatives trying to sell a product or service irrespective of the weather being too hot or too chilling etc..However in the last couple of years I have observed that the count of direct sales representatives have come down drastically and the reason for this is Telephonic Sales. Statistics show that the telesales model is much cheaper and productive than the direct sales model. With the fall in technology and communication cost, telesales model is being preferred over direct sales model.Do you think that in coming future the telesales model will completely replace the direct sales model?

these days agressive telemarketing taking place which to an certain have got people repelling it.moreover, through web portals n television,  where 3-d view is available one can attract customer towards some product .but consumer still prefers real time presentation which cannot be replaced by anything else.one would never buy a car or laptop with mere pictoral ,audio visual,or  vocal presentation. these things still need effective communicators to make the sale happen.

Thanks for your valuable feedback.

However,I have a different view on the overall arguement you has presented. Yes,I do agree that physicall presense is required for selling specialized products because of which direct sales become indespensible. But with technology advancement and computer and internet growth it becomes far more cost effective to reach out prospective consumers based out of remote locations. Yes, the telesales model will take some time to replace the direct sales model,however eventually telesales model will be the in thing in the coming future. Maybe an organization might start of with a combination of both models and gradually may eliminate the direct sales model.

I feel that the future is telesales because it offers low cost,high productivity and deeper and faster penetration of unexplored markets vis-a-vis direct sales model.

No way. Telesales model has got its own limitations. Online sales, telesales, and other models may progress but they cannot eliminate or drastically minimise the direct sales model.
