Its obvious, testing  ( means only  life cycle of testing phase)....

In SDLC before implementation phase ,testing phase comes....

Before implementation, there are alpha release and beta release of your product..(which means a kind of user testing and other testing)....after fixing the bugs  properly only any one implement that product........

so, its subset of SDLC.

Second point is that....

there use to be testing project also.....

but before that testing project is completed no one can implement that product or deliver that product to the client.....

suppose, if A is doing development of a product then simultaneously or side by side it can give its product for testing to B.

But befor B delivers and the bugs are fixed A cant deliver its product to its client..Its as simple as that..

So its part of SDLC only.

Testing is surly part of Software Development Life Cycle. However the focus is on development in SDLC.

STLC details testing activities/tasks independent / aligned with SDLC.

Ex. A team could use STLC to test software at any point in time, independent of SDLC activities.

Hence STLC could be classifed separate from SDLC.

SDLC could always be expanded to cover the "detailed" testing, however it is easy to manage complexity by keeping both the LCs separate and operationally tightly coupled for best results.

SDLC has many aspects to it....These aspects form subset of the superset of SDLC. Amongst them Testing Life cycle focusses exclusively on the testing aspect.

This kind of identification of subset life cycles has been developed to promote attention to details and provide a secure working platform to ensure that customer requirements are clearly and methodically met and, consequently, customer confidence in the outsourcing or product development process is enhanced.

Manish, I hope this answers your question.

SDLC is a very broad field and does include STLC since the outcome of SDLC is a quality software which is being developed might not be bug free. So in order to ensure the software/application is bug free, we need testing to resolve issues or fix bugs.

SDLC is nothing but - RDCT

R - Requirments

D - Development

C - Coding

T - Testing

So testing is part of SDLC / Any development life cycle

Yes SDLC goes through many phases and one of them is Testing.Testing begins with the verification of the requirements documents. Testers need to analyse the requirements documents to ensure that they know exactly what the requirement is and that everyone has the same understanding. Removing ambiguity at this stage will remove bugs from later stages. Once the System Design and Requirements are available they can be used for Test cases. Each Test case has a Test condition and procedure and an expected outcome.

In my point of view testing is a subunit of SDLC as during the integration and test stage, the software artifacts, online help, and test data are migrated from the development environment to a separate test environment. At this point, all test cases are run to verify the correctness and
completeness of the software. Successful execution of the test suite confirms a robust and complete migration capability.

Yes Testing is very important in the SDLC cycle, where testing comes at the end, after the design and development the testing is very important where, it will really help the clients to come across bugs and help in improvement of the product. So testing is very important
