Pakistani-American terrorist David Headley aka Daood Gilani has avoided extradition to India and a possible death sentence in the Mumbai terror case, but India can access him in the United States under a plea bargain he has reached with US federal authorities. Now it has affirmed the suspicions of many in the security establishment in India that Headley is a double agent who worked for the CIA. In other words, if Headley cooperates to the US government's satisfaction, it will ask the court to give a lesser sentence than even life imprisonment.

Earlier also Headly was arrested in this kind of terrorist activities. But due to his admission of guilt and cooperation, the American officers released him which resulted his actions in India in 26/11 Mumbai attacks. Now, if the same case happens, Headly again will be released and attack India. Unfortunately, US is neither Handling Headly nor any of his informations to India which is against the anti-terrorist agreement signed between India and USA. This has raised a question whether US is seriously a friend of India.

So users, is the David Headley trial an acid test for the India-US ties?

obivously yes, america never been favour india in any matter it might be terrorism also. it is only due to terrorist attack on his own country america come forward to strike a war against terrorism but its only his dual face i.e. for the safety of american's itself, if it comes to india or any other suffering country than the big bang pakistan lashkar operative terrorist david coleman headly should be compromized on terms of providing information about their terror activities.

ACID TEST REACTION-:

LESSEN PUNISHMENT OF LIFE IMPRISONMENT AND NOT TO HANDOVER HEADLY TO ANOTHER COUNTRY--->INDIA FOR FURTHER INVERTIGATION ABOUT TERRORIST PLOT OF 26/11 NEITHER SHARING ANY INFOMATION AS HE IS AMERICAN CITIZEN & AND ITS IN THEIR CONSTITUTION NOT TO HANDOVER THEIR TERRORIST CITIZEN TO ANOTHER COUNTRY....(AMERICA).

Why is our media not exploring the possibility that Headley might be the agent provocateur sent by the US agencies or at least the possibility that the US agencies might have connived at Headley's actions in India leading to 26/11? After all, 26/11 led to further bad blood between India and Pakistan, halted the ongoing composite dialog and exacerbated strife between the two nations. And tensions between two nations is in the interests of a third in realpolitik especially if that third nations happens to be the US.

navjeet what you have said is right in the context as India has said that its ok with David headley being given life sentence.....but still the verdict is not out....but surely ties of India and US here is debatable as US is not giving anything to India here, they are doing all the prosecutions and for India they are just giving a video conferencing for questioning which will happen when we dont know..these are the tactics that US is using against US to show their hard tactics also with providing pakistan their aid in a way they are brooding terrorism and are on one hand fighting against it......so have to wait and see how the development happens from here......

Yes. David headley's trial is an acid test for the India-US ties since this will clearly show how much cooperation US is doing with India against terrorism. Whenever they needed us, we helped them and now they are denying to do the same. This shows one simple thing. USA will do what they feel is right for them and will not heed to you, hence as and when there is an opportunity with India, reciprocate in the same manner. America is treating Headley just like they treat Pakistan, as Headley is cooperating with the Agencies so he will be let off lightly ignoring the fact that he was the mastermind for killing 160 innocent people. Just few of the American double standard. Pakistan is being let off because it cooperate

Sure Kavitha, agreeing by disagreeing. You must have read / heard by now that Headley could even escape life term. Give the happening a close look and you'll realise what US has in plans. Headley would be a free man to walk in 2-3 years, may be even lesser and all he would get in the name of restrictions is not to leave the country without permission. To create an imbalance in this part of world, try and keep an upper hand and lend indirect support to Pakistan (read terrorism) has been and will be the agenda for US. To hell with ties is a silent message they have been sending, its just hard luck rthat we have not been able to get it clear.

Lets not be in misapprehension of any nature for the simple reason US has supported destabilizing the region for its interests in past and in its on going internal policy change (supposed to be) under Obama i believe its just playing hide and sick with its own past to avoid face loss. Headly is the perfect scapegoat in this turmoil and there would be massive cover up without much fuss....

His has been an interesting case so far. I look at few developments differently and here’s what I see out of this case.

26/11 and blasts in Pune later, Headley had become too big, harsh and demanding for FBI to handle, so they decided to expose him. Leaking few details to Indian authorities to set ball rolling in here and send them into tizzy, well knowing there’s nothing that would happen either to them or Headley. A well planned strategy of FBI and all related American authorities in misleading us all (everybody included). This starts from Headley visiting strategic locations in here, planning strike with ISI and doing all such things before getting arrested. Headley pleading guilty and escaping with small sentence is a good act that was well rehearsed over good number of years.

USA and friend. That is a good joke Kavitha. How on earth could USA be our friend when they are knee deep into all that’s happening in here? Even with all our might, getting hold of Headley is a big thing to hope for. Why that, the chances of speaking to him is a remote possibility that our agencies hold. Anit-terrorist and all such agreements – two hoots. And acid test – lets admit Kavitha, I would term such things as minor when it comes to ties with BIG DADDY.

Its not a matter of acid test I suppose as its more than obvious that America is first a very good friend of itself & all other countries are considered friendly to them unless & until their interests are supreme & intact.
