Remember when daddy dearest used to come home on his scooter and you used to stand on it pretending that you are driving it? It has become a thing of past. Today most of us prefer to buy motorcycles. Even the age old manufacturers of scooters have stopped the production and have turned to motorcycles. Nobody seems to be interested in them anymore. Have these motorcylces replaced the age old scooters? Is the global market for scooters losing out to motorcycles?

When we make a big purchase we have a lot of things on mind. We think of the average , the maintenence and the speed. With the scooters of past all of these were a problem and then came the revolution. The revolution had a name: motorcycle!! So why not should we go for long term economic option?? Motorcyles are better than scooters and so they will rule the world.

Still there exist a dedicated -to-scooters public. Plus those who still can't afford motorbikes do invest in scooters. Like any trend which returns with a bit of renovation and innovation.. scooters too would make a good come back..

Look matters today. Jo dikhta hai wo bikta hai. Motorcycle has smart look than scooter.

Yes. It is true. Even for ladies,  we find difficult to find scooters from Bajaj, Honda etc.  Luckily , TVS Scooty is giving it away.  People prefers car now,  than scooters and things like that. There is a shift in purchase pattern visibly now-a-days.

Isupport Namrata, that scooter is losing out to motor bikes. The main reason being that bikes are synonymous to adventure and so dear one to younger ones.

Thanks,Namrata for referral.

Despite the replacement by motorcycles, still there is customer base for the scooter type vehicles especially from segment like ladies, seniors, and business people using to carry their luggage. It can not be argued that it is completely losing out.

Thanks for the referral Mr.Virag, Mr.Namrata, and Ms.Bindu.

I don't have access to any data to be able to comment on global markets. In India, it seems true for now. But.. but.. everything is not lost for scooters just because junior Bajaj thinks so. Already, a new set of trendy scooters targeted at women, mainly younger women, has arrived. The advantage of new technologies will gradually make them popular among men as well. As I see, the rise of bikes was basically due to better mileage and if a new product can beat the bikes in mileage, the hoards may shift their loyalty all over again.
