Its the second time in a single month where petrol price has been hiked 3 Rs  on both the occassions. This is hurting people like anything, and the government is unable to tame this inflation and from many corners people are saying like the government is profiteering on fuel price hike. Is the government profiteering on fuel price hike??

Yes.The govt which swears by the aam aadmi is not concerned about the effects of increase in price of petrol on essential commodities which are beyond the reach of the common, man. It is only worried about profits.  How many times does it want to increase the price?.No limit.  Why petrol prices have gone up in the last 5 to 6 years - only after the oil companies started increasing their company-owned outlets?  Why the time-gap between the hike has been decresing lately - are they testing how we react so that they can increase their prices every week, then twice a week, then every day?

Consumption of oil per day in India is high - the stock (now they are company owned outlets, so the stock available at their factories too can be considered) they own on the day of price hike is sold on new prices, is this a coincidence or a tip of the iceberg of one more corruption, especially after the companies started having their own outlets?

Absolutely not. One has to look at it sanely. In a country as huge as ours with just 20% of the petroleum reserves on hand, corrupt netas siphoning of fuel, drivers doing the same and with the balance 80% being imported, what else would you expect ? Not to forget the huge subsidies on petrol and gas ! Now tally that with the international price of petrol and then let us know what you would do ? If you still say, you wouldnt increase the price, then its time for that appointment with your doctor. How many of us are ready to really walk to the milk booth in the morning to pick up our packet or the newspaper stand for that matter. We take the car or the bike out even if it is within walkable distance. Then we also talk about high petrol prices ! It is within each one of us to take measures to control the same. It is simple, when demand reduces, prices will automatically come down.

It is ironical yet true that each liter of fuel wasted....... thanks to bad roads or traffic nightmares means a loss to citizen yet profit to Government. Every paisa of increase in fuel price means higher yield to Government coffers through taxes.

Ever wondered why initiatives on clean fuels or better roads and road management is never sighted in place.

Higher collection means better handle to spend, earn, self spend and to dole ot schemes as though spending charity from pocket, to further enhance gains to hold on to power, and all this at the cost of hapless populace.

Kiran I agree with you. There were really some dip in crude prices but have the consumers got the benefit of the same?

From January this year the crude price is averaging $112/- per barrel. In that case why there are price increases on different times. I think Mr. Montek singh Aluawlia is responsible for all these moves and he is happy since he is not footing the bill for petrol.

First ensure every citizen of the country earns a little less than the politician and then go on increasing the price it will not affect then.

when the petrol touched a few years back to 130 to 150 dollars per barrel.the govt.suppoeted the Aaam Aadmi @Rs.45 to Rs.50 per litre varying from delhi the lowest to chennai and mumbai being the highest for end users based on sales tax etc. etc.i.e was under price administered regime and govt.supported the 4 govt controlled companies the subsidy component, while Reliance which went on leaps and bounds by opening more than 1600 outlets across the country, and after so many protest the govt.gave a blind eye to private players. Now is it notthe moral responsibility to support the Aaam Admi by directing the central authorities to cut import duty on petrol and direct assuming alliance partnered states to cut sales tax as Maharashtra govt.did.when the petrol is just 90 dollars per barrel in the international market.I hope the Aaam Admi Minister our most reverred MINISTER OF OUR TIMES, when he bailed out India during the second great financial crisis starting Mid 2007 to mid 2009,when the world leaders like USA,where out of 200 major banks 185 of them got broke;Lehman Brothers Citi bank Bank of America, and others to name a few. I request on behalf of the Billion plus population of India, tinkering of Petrol and diesel should be done once a year that to the begining of financial year april month, and not to tinker now and then, which effects the root odf the Aaam Admi starting from basic cup of Tea to transporting Aam admi in Bus Share Auto TRAIN or any commercialvehicle whit hits the Aam admi in his belly.

The fuel price hike makes the government to earn and the common man to suffer. But the peculiarity is that whatever increase in prices no one stops buying the petrol to ignite their vehicles which is the strong point makes the government to inflate the petrol prices very often. What to do friends since petrol becomes the essential commodity for all. Moreover the increasing sales in two wheelers & four wheelers contributes to increase the prices of petrol and further when there is more demand for vehicles naturally higher the petrol price.

Thanks for the referral Mr.Kiran Kumar.

Yes, the higher the "basic" price of petroleum products, the more the government earns in taxes, because the tax calculated as a percentage of the price.

Why, the budget was planned in March last and it was planed according to the expected tax earnings that petroleum products would fetch the government. Agreed, this tax amount would go to fund various public projects, etc., etc.

However, if the international prices increase, then just increase the price to that extant and decrease the tax component (so that the same earnings are achieved for the govt.). Why include the tax component in the price increase.

Really absurd. And then, these infrastructure project are the breeders of corrupt politicians and bureaucrats.

Government should re-work on the pricing policy from the perspective of "inclusive growth"! The price hike in one segment spikes the essential commodities. This cascading effect should be seen as a whole rather than an isolated approach. Inflation, if failed to contain, would reach 20% mark shortly!

Yes, the Andhra Pradesh state Government is getting 33% as the tax. One side companies are increasing the prices and the other side the state government is also getting lots of profit as part of tax. This is only the state where the petrol price is more.

The agitation in the ordinary class is understood after the regular Hike in fues,But still the stake holders of Oil company's are regularly bearing loss, wherein we (India) can not even fulfill even 20% of the fuel demands of our Nation. One has to understand that India is depending on Other Nations to stabilize the fuel demands.Where as Govt can merely act as a spectators.

The price of fuel is still << than the international price. Oil companies (indirectly Govt) are bearing the loss and Govt is subsidising. Everytime the price is increased, the tax component also increases. There the states make a profit. The country is in a subsidy driven economy - anywhere we can get some money to make up the subsidy is most welcome.

Fuel price hike does not anyhow restrict its dimension upto the benefit of the Government, but think that the number of vehicles are increasing with a very high speed and hence the demand of fuel will increase accordingly. And we all know that if the demand will increase price will automatically hike. That is also a reason dear.
