The Internet is no doubt changing modern society. It has profoundly altered how we gather information, consume news, carry out war, and create and foster social bonds.

But is it altering our brains? Share your opinions

I am of the opinion that internet is warping our brain. And even the latest studies conducted by the scientists are providing data to show that internet in altering our brain. The technologies are infantilising the brain into the state of small children who are attracted by buzzing noises and bright lights, who have a small attention span and who live for the moments.

Our brains are evolving, and so are how we do things. The problem is, the old generation regards social skills with meeting people physically. Now a days, you are social if you are online communicating. People who welcome new experiences have stronger connections between their brain centers associated with memory and reward than people who tend to avoid anything new. Internet is not altering our brain, but our brain is evolving according to the changes of the changing environment.

I agree with you but saying that it is altering the brain is too far fetched. Yes it is certainly influencing the way our thought process works. We have a very short attenntion span and to a certain extent limiting our capacity of deep understanding and thinking/analyzing of things.

I think net provides us loads of information, at times, some become knowledge & hence add value to our thought process.

I suppose any alteration in our thinking patterns is itself a reflection of our mind being somewhat altered!

Every intellectual occupancy is changing our minds. As we learn languages it does, as we play an instrument (change is more evident, because the intellectual movement is expressed in the body as well) and so it does, when we spend much time with computers.

U asked ... "altering our brains " ?

Charles Darwin, in his 'theory of evolution' observed that any change in a human body ( or of any living creature ) may require ten thousand years or so. How internet may change our brains so quick ? Till today, scientists could not find the full function of a human brain - it is said that a human does not know the full strength of his/her brain and only a small portion of it is generally used.

U .. perhaps have our "style of thinking"  in mind  i.. !! Yes it is possible as, with the help of Internet we may gather tons of informations ( some are even wrong and mis-leading) on a paeticular subject and do to & fro digital communications within short time.

Let us look at it this way - the Internet is an advance , just like the discovery of fire. Just because today we have arsonists , we don't think the discovery of fire was bad.

The Internet is a technological discovery just like the telegraph , radio , television and so many others. All of these have their pros and cons. The radio is a wonderful tool for taking information to the farmer ; it was also used by Hitler for propaganda.

How the Internet is used or misused or abused is up to the individual user. No one can deny that the Internet has made so many wonderful things possible.

It has made it possible for minds to come together. You can see how it has helped during times of crisis , like the earthquake in China , Haiti , or in hurricane Katrina.

Let us not throw the baby out with the bath water !

And with every new innovation , once our minds come to grips with it , and start using it , our minds are changed for ever. After having got used to mobile phones , can we ever think of going back to the era when we had only land lines ?

Certainly not.Beause behind emergence of internet there is human mind.So how could internet alter human brain?Internet is the medium of getting things done,bt human brain is the one who are responsible for getting things done.If human brain will stop working then there will be no exixtence of any technology, rather there will be no use of those.
