The scandal over ownership of IPL franchises and the I-T investigations have the potential to affect the tournament's reputation. Within moments IPL is under the eyes of the Govt. & I-T department. The Indian I-T department has cleary stated that Latit Modi has used millions of dollars of black money to build his multi-billion dollars empire...

This incident is disgrace to the game we call as 'cricket' & the country we know as 'India'. So, have we become so corrupt & disgracefull that we can sell the glory of cricket & the countyr just for the sake of pieces of papers(money)??

Thus,IPL has become a racket for gambling??

Its confirmed that IPL is a hub of corruption. IPL has created a lot of controversy.I would like to highlight the role of Mr. Shashi Tharoor in particular.

Mr.Tharoor is always in the news for the wrong reasons but this time iis different.

As a MP from Kerela,it is ovious that he would support a IPL team from his home state. Its natural. As he is one of the wellknown face from that place.By supporting the Kochi team he has shown his loyality to the people of Kerala, which i strongly belive everyone would understand.

Again its not his duty to check the credentialds of the the company that is owning Kochi team.As far as Sunanda Puskar is corcerned, I belive we should respect her private life and also as a woman. Her stake in the team is swap equity ,that is linked to her pofessional expertise and the experience she carries.

If someone need to be questioned regarding the entire controvers is the BCCI and particularly the IPL sub-commettee. I would like to make a point that I am not a keralite or a Shashi Tharoor fan, simply a concerned citizen who thinks someone is victimised because of his recent tweets.

Please do not judge the book by its cover!! Similarly do not be judgemental even before meeting the person. Hearsay is never an evidence of guilt!!

Am I right Ravindra??

And where are the  bigger scamsters of our country gone?? Harshad Mehta entered his own grave, Narendra Modi is certainly on a very nostalgic journey of his past ghosts and Lalooji is never going to go hungry because he has fodder for thought and hunger both!!

You said it ravindra, its just a tumbler breaking in the glass factory. The sound carries and leave no debris!! :)

Let us start avoiding these private clubs like BCCI etc. People should force BCCI stop calling its team as TEAM INDIA. India and our patriotism is misused to amass millions for private persons and clubs. Wonder why govt of India is giving BCCI tax exemption.

Similarly all societies/trusts which are enriching private persons in the guise of public charitable units enjoying tax benefits should be nationalised.

1. Corruption is rampant and is bad. But atleast an educated, polite politician is better than uneducated, inhuman ones.. 2. Who in cricket is poor ? The players who earn crores per year ? Or the ppl who pay 550Rs to watch the game from the balcony ???? Its a big business..and nothing more. But i feel there is nothing we need to care so much about, except that the Income tax department should take atleast 35-40% tax on IPL and all the franchises. Even if it is the black money that is flowing, atleast let the govt get some part of it!!

Its another Satyam saga. "sweat equity" is the easy route via proxy route to amass wealth - a novel way of corruption! Poor Cricketers - they are thrown open to the people of different nature - gamblers, bookies, media and entertainment industries, celebrities, and last but not the least, politicians. This game of IPL will certainly bring discredit to the country in a very big way. As such, we are considered to be one of the most corrupt countries in the world (placed at 85 in the corruption perception index) by Transparency International. We are time and again proving to the world that we are not exception!

Cricket has always been Indians favorite sports game. But. IPL has brought cricket to such a grade that it is purely a money-making enterprise. Millions of dollars are flowing into a few hands, the recent scam over cochin IPL team is a glaring evidence. Imagine what will be the mindsets of players of other national games like hockey, when their efforts recieve a cold receiption??

Possibly the one unchallenged fact is that the entire area of finance and accounts of the IPL is shrouded; transparency is something that is missing so far with the administration of the IPL so long.

The lack of transparency anywhere begets the belief that there is something - or many things to hide! I've a feeling that many hands in this mess are not quite clean. I don't think it's only the roles of Mr Lalit Modi, Mr Shashi Tharoor and a few others who are in the limelight at the moment needs to be probed. A thorough and unbiased examination of the entire setup is needed to make the IPL regain its lost glory.

Well, Mr. Prabhakar Rao, the truth is that the skeletons will not come out. Actually the reason that Modi and Tharoor are sacked is to push all the debris under the carpet. Create all the hue and cry of the issue, sack a few people and make some scapegoats, form a committee to investigate the whole affair, keep releasing periodic statements, keep the left happy, keep the right happy ( the center is always happy :-) ), etc., etc.

Meanwhile there would be a major shakeup in BCCI and some more (or different) Politicians, bureaucrats and businessmen would enter the bandwagon and keep the wheel keeps churning. Those politicos who do not or are not capable to enter the fray would keep shouting foul.

After a while, maybe some scapegoats would be booked and cases filed against them. These cases files would be chilling in the cupboards of the court till the hearing comes up and it becomes a “Big One Day – All Day (Only) News” for all the news channels, where personalities like Sagarika Gosh and Srinivasan Jain would conduct their own trail in the presence of cricket celebrities and pronounce an ambiguous verdict. This cycle would continue for a few years.

All the while the IPL series would continue with or without more allegations.

Actually it is better to accept all this is all a part of the game…. The part of the Modern Game. Enjoy the melodrama.  No one is bothered or cares about the principle of fair-play, honesty, etc. All people want is a good dose of entertainment after a hard day’s work.

BTW : There is too much money involved. It is better for the politicians to let things as they are … (i.e.) let the BCCI to remain a non nationalized entity (Private) because of the possibility of swindling more money (if it remains private). Also, cricket in India makes the TV Channels to rake in profits. It helps advertisers. It helps former cricketers and umpires. It creates an experts out of a common man giving him an ego boost and making him happy. Etc. etc. etc.

Hence, even with all these corruption let the game continue …

Yes, entertainment fraught with mega, black bucks.

Now that Tharoor is sacked, the next to go would be Modi and the skeletons - one after the other will come out of the closet, in due course.

IPL 90% entertainment and 10% cricket. It's festival in India. Wherever money is there corruption becomes a part of it. It can't be separated. Publics are made foools in this.

Yesterday, in one of the news in “Sun News”, local (Tamil) news channel, there was this report that mentioned something like this :–

It is suspected that there may be rampant gambling in the IPL because, in many of his tweets, Lalit Modi, has correctly and precisely predicted the outcome. Like for instance in the DD Vs CSK match, Modi had mentioned in his tweet that DD would win by 6 wickets and in the KKR Vs RR Match in the last IPL he had stated that the match would finish in a tie and in the super over RR would win. There is also speculation that the strategic time out is used to fix the game.

My point is that neither Cochin nor Rajasthan are great Cricketing powers of the country. Hence, why should there be a team for these centers? (Rajasthan has a team only because of Lalit Modi). Whereas, Gujarat, Haryana, UP and MP don’t have a team, there is a second team for Maharashtra.

All the same, I have to accept that just like a good movie where the script and the action have already been shot and is very entertaining (Even when we see it after reading the reviews in the papers), IPL, with its pre written script and live action provides rich entertainment.

And of course, some bigwigs are making stinking-ly lots of money.

You are absolutely right Mam; In my opinion Mr.Modi & Mr.Tharoor both are doing no good for Indian cricket.I can understand the sentiment of Kerala people at the same time putting weight behind to grab the maximum pie by Mr.Tharoor not acceptable. Mr.Modi of late become very rich and in our country rich people commands. His ego can hurt if Mr.Tharoor put his ministerial ego forward.

I think it is money that matters the most & who is going to earn maximum. I wonder that 74 of Our CRPF jawan killed by Maoist, one chief minister has denied to give a single penny to those hapless jawan,s family. In a country where children's are asked eat mud as no food available to 33% of population. In contrary in IPL thousands of Crores are exchanging few hands and above all people are fighting for money & more money.

This sucks man..

IPL is just a business - their targeted customers/clusters are cricket fans - They are making profit in this business by making the fans as tool. They are perfect business man. A great startup will end with controversy... :)

Madam Namrata : Your question on another posting on TooStep was : Is corruption in the of blood every Indian ?

Is your modified answer here is " everybody minus Mr Tharoor " ? ... but most people think otherwise.

What U have had  posted ......  ( not acceptable though ) :

"   Corruption is the Fifth pillar of democracy. Corruption is the foundation of Indian Administration. Corruption in the backbone of Indian economy. Corruption provides lubricant to Indian Judicial system. Corruption is the oxygen for politicians. Corruption keeps your Boss happy and you go on moving up.

Corruption elevates your social status, hides your mistakes, gives you choice posting, helps in getting early promotion and what not..

Any work can be done smooth and timely if you indulge in corruption. Lessons: Accept and Give bribe as much as possible and be happy. Accept illegal practices prevalent in the system with joy and pleasure, ... ....
  ".

One may not divert attention so that main issues are lost. Yes, IPL as a whole is under scanner along with role of some big fish and truth may come out soon. We are just watching what unfolds next.

I think its not about the corruption, its about the appetite people have, Modi with his power and fame tries to be bigger then the game, he will be left with nothing. the sad thing in our country is no matter how big a scam its always forgotten, and i will not treat IPL as a sport its business and entertainment and every one wants a share of the pie.

True Makrand,

If we list the known scams on the day and compare with IPL, this one may appear like pygmy.

It is doing disservice to cricket is as well not a discovery.

Everyone knew what too much of money can do especially if the purpose is short lived. Yet as long as people throwing this money do not mind how can anyone intervene especially if people within Government as well are part of it.

IPL is neither the first nor the last so far as corruption and deceit are concerned.

Much bigger scams may be happening day in and day out yet we are singling this one because of one factor that is publicity and hype. This surely is not even compared to the hair in a head.

We are a such a vibrant economy, such minor incidents are no more than a tumbler breaking in a glass factory.
