Well Manoj,,very witty,,,but I think its possible,,,only two things needed,,,,political will & people getting more aware,,,& equipped with tools like RTI.

With political will I mean,,accountability,,,,there should be very transparent & accountable bureaucracy & other power centers.... Bhopal disaster, Kargil, Mumbai to cases like of Ruchika,,,,every one who is related, should be answerable & if found guilty of negligence or of deliberate attempt to do so,,,should be removed and/or punshied.

I'd also like to quote NY Times here that how with a little awareness made to her,,,a day laborer from Jharkhand,,got her house from the Govt using the RTI & there are other many references from the journal extolling the act for leveraging rights of the poor. (Link-http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/29/world/asia/29india.html

In the end,,,we,,we the people can do much,,,,all we need to fight the system with all the little we can do in our personal capacity by raising our voices & concerns,,,, if we fight all,,,,this 'd definitely make a difference,,,,isn't it...or do we need a miracle for that?

Thanks for the referral Manoj.

Without thinking much I am supporting you on this side Ravali, We can't even day dream that. Let me just add some thing funny. I just changed an e mail I recieved long time back for this context.

A man on his bike was riding along a beach when suddenly the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming voice, the Lord said, 'Because you have tried to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish.' The biker pulled over and said, 'Build an elevated road connecting to all the metros in India so I can ride over anytime I want.' The Lord said, 'Your request is materialistic, think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking; the supports required and the concrete and steel it would take and the problems creating on the existing situation! I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that could possibly help mankind.'

The biker thought about it for a long time.
Finally, he said, 'Lord, I wish that there is no corruption in India from grass root level.'

The Lord replied, 'Do you want two lanes or four on that road?"

Thanks Ravali for referral...

Hassan Ali's links with Congress Spokeswomen Renuka Choudhry exposed

NEW DELHI:  Kolkata-based businessman Kashinath Tapuriah, associate and co-accused in theHasan Ali multi-crore money laundering case, has in a series of statements made to Enforcement Directorate named several politicians the alleged hawala operator was close to. In 2000, IHassan Ali Khan, gifted a Rs 1.2 crore diamond to Congress politician from Andhra Pradesh, Renuka Chowdhury. .Tapuriah says, "I had taken a diamond from Soir Jewellers in Mumbai, owned by building contractor Abbas Naqvi, to keep with me. (It) cost around Rs 1.2 crore. Khan took it saying he would give me the money or the diamond within three months. He told me that he wanted to give the diamond to an important person and referred to Renuka Chowdhury Khan had told me that she was a very close friend. I was never paid for the diamond..." Tapuriah said that he met Chowdhury through Congress leader Jagdish Tytler. Despite repeated attempts by India Today to contact her, Chowdhury was unavailable for comment. Other politicians believed to have been named by Tapuria are former Commonwealth Games chief Suresh Kalmadi, expelled Samajwadi MP Jaya Prada, Congress MP Subbirami Reddy, ex-MP AS Chaudhary and the late Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy, who was the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.

Sonia's Black Money Account

Here is some shocking truth for all the supporters of Congress party regarding Gandhis ,

Rajiv’ 2.5 Billions,Swiss Magazine Confirms.

The shocking exposure came from Switzerland itself. The most popular magazine of Switzerland, Schweizer Illustrierte, [dated November 11, 1991] did an expose of 14 politicians of developing nations who, it said, had stashed their bribes in Swiss banks.

The title of the expose in German read “Fluchgelder — Die Schweizer Konten der Dictatoren”. In English it meant, “Curse of money — The Swiss bank accounts of the Dictators”. Rajiv Gandhi figured in the expose as one with slush funds in secret accounts.

Schweizer Illustrierte is not some rag. It is the Number One Swiss magazine and sells some 2,10,000 copies. Its readership is 9,18,000 — some 15 per cent of Swiss adults. The magazine had mentioned specific amounts in secret Swiss accounts of different leaders with their pictures alongside.

Corruption is already banned in India and practicing it is a crime. But you a person cannot be convicted untill it is proved in the court of law. The chargesheeted people have enough corrupt money to fight and delay a case. Small corruptions like a bribe of Rs.100/-, offering gifts and money to get the work done, charging extra by Taxi drivers goes un-noticed and people had accepted this as a way of life.

There is a little difference between possible and not possible.I strongly agree that it is possible. Just we need to change our perception. In short BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE. Practically you will come across a lot of hurdles. But A positive attitude and firm determination will definitely bring the change.I urge all in favour and against to just see the advertisement by TATA TEA AGAINST CORRUPTION ,JAAGO INDIA.

It is possible however we need an didicated and powerful team to implement the ban. We have Central Vigillance Commissioner, lokaiuthas in states, anti corruption scod at each state & district level. This difines well structured approach of an systamatic process.

The need is an able and right person who can take up the challenge given all power. Most of the CVC & lokaithas are handpicked by corrupt persons. It is difficult to find an good & moral person with ethics in a bad group.

Yes possible, provided we shed our double standards and hypocrisy.

Only total transparency in all thought and action can lead to total accountability. For this we must ban currency circulation, ban corruption, ban money laundering and make all transactions transparent on the web using biometric smart card. No one should be above law. Exemplary punishment must be meted out to law breakers. India and the world can be transformed in a short period of time.

It is possible, if and only if we all agree that not only politicians but the entire society(i.e SYSTEM) is culprit and equally responsible. And we must change our mentality. We should not be greedy. This is the fact, that we can not earn more and more with truthfulness. So, We should follow the saying- "SIMPLE LIVING AND HIGH THINKING", so that we do not need any bribe or crookedness. We should not wait for the others to change. Let we initiate for this...We can change ourselves....and we must remember, that we can make the huge difference. Let us prove- "Little drops can make great Ocean"

"NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE". IF WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THE PREVAILING SYSTEMS OF GOVERNANCE, I CAN SUGGEST THAT EVEN A  SOFTWARE ENGINEER CAN DEVELOP A FOOLPROOF TRANSPARENT SYSTEM THAT COULD BE IMPLEMENTED ACROSS INDIA AS A ROAD MAP FOR BRINGING TRANSPARENCY AT EVERY STEP OF OPERATIONS WHETHER GOVT. OR PRIVATE.

WHY WE CANNOT..... IS JUST DUE TO LACK OF DETERMINATION AND WILL POWER. WHY DO WE KEEP ON SAYING IMPOSSIBLE.......?               BECAUSE FROM CHILDHOOD, WE INHERIT CORRUPTION, BE IT SCHOOL, TEACHER OR THE DEGREE. OUR TOLERANCE LEVEL HAS GONE VERY HIGH. GOOD PEOPLE CONSTANTLY FEAR THE STRONG CORRUPT LOBBY, IMPROPER JUSTICE AND LACK OF SUPPORT FROM GOVT..

I'LL GIVE YOU ONE SMALL EXAMPLE OF GOOD GOVERNANCE THAT I NOTICED IN A GOVT. HOSPITAL RECENTLY. IT IS SIMPLY ABOUT IMPOSING A FINE OF RS. 200/- WHOSOEVER IS BEING CAUGHT SPITTING WITHIN THE CAMPUS OF THE HOSPITAL OTHER THAN THE SPECIFIED AREAS HAVING SPITTOONS. THE RESULT IS EVIDENT FROM THE CLEANLINESS OF THE CAMPUS APPRECIATED BY ALL. THIS IS A SMALL EXAMPLE OF A CREATIVE MIND WHO HAS TAKEN THE PAIN TO IMPLEMENT IT. SIMILARLY WE CAN DO AWAY WITH CORRUPTION TOO. YOU SIMPLY NEED A START.

WE MUST ADOPT CARROT AND STICK POLICY AT EVERY STEP OF OUR SO CALLED DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY AND IT SHOULD BE HELD EQUAL TO CULPABLE HOMICIDE WITH AMENDMENTS IN OUR LAW TO MAKE IT PUNISHABLE TO MAXIMUM EXTENT.

WITH A POSITIVE NOTE TOGETHER WITH A RIGHT START I SEE BY EVERY MEANS THAT CORRUPTION CAN BE ERADICATED ONCE WE ARE DETERMINED. I REMEMBER THE WORDS OF MR. SHIV KHERA WHO HAS SAID THAT "THE WORLD IS RULED BY CORRUPT PEOPLE BUT WITHIN THIS CORRUPTION ONLY FEW GOOD PEOPLE ARE ACTUALLY RUNNING THE SHOW", SO WHY NOT TAKE A PLEDGE TO CONNECT OURSELVES WITH GOOD PEOPLE AND PROVE OURSELVES FOR BEING A HUMAN BEING.

THIS IS A MATERIALISTIC AND SELFISH  WORLD. QUICK MONEY AND TO BECOME A MILLIONAIRE HAS BECOME EVERYBODY'S DREAM . HONEST ARE BEING CURSED, CORRUPT AND RICH ARE RESPECTED BUT WITHIN THIS THERE EXIST A  SMALL GROUP WHO IS SATISFIED WITH WHAT DESTINY HAS GIVEN TO THEM.

AGAIN HERE COMES THE MEDIA WHO HAS  A GREATER ROLE TO PLAY. PROPER RECOGNITION AND RESPECT TO THE FEW GOOD AND HONEST PEOPLE IS BADLY NEEDED, RATHER THAN HIGHLIGHTING AND CREATING A MEDIA HYPE OF ACHIEVEMENTS OF PEOPLE ENGAGED IN CORRUPT PRACTICES.

Dear Suresh Sankar,

"BANE" it already is. Bane is a curse FYI.

The word you wanted to use is "BAN" . The people entrusted to apply that are the cause and reason for it

Yes!! It is still possible if the citizen refuse to make compromises for selfish reasons and believe this is the biggest ILL.

Imagine if all en-mass boycott having any dealings with blood relations or friends involved in such acts? After all a corrupt as well has family friends and so on......

Strength of WILL Is the factor that matters.

If you are refering to getting rid of corruption in India, I will always say YES because fundamentally i am an optimist.

All takes for corruption to be ended is for each one of us to say no and prevent its practice at our individual level. It will not be ended by reservation or by subsidy or by a commission of enquiry or by laws framed. It will be, however, easily ended by each individual making the decision to be NOT CORRUPT.

FIR against BJP CM and Family Members

Source:TNN

BANGALORE: Lokayukta police on Monday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against former CM B S Yeddyurappa, his two sons and son-in-law, charging them with corruption in a mining deal.

Yeddyurappa, his sons B Y Raghavendra, MP, and B Y Vijayendra, and son-in-law R N Sohan Kumar have been booked under sections 7, 8, 9, 13(1) D, and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Yeddyurappa figures as the accused number 1, followed by his sons and son-in-law. Lokayukta SP Vidyasagar is the investigating officer.

In his report on July 27, then Lokayukta Justice Santosh N Hegde had recommended to the governor to initiate criminal proceedings against Yeddyurappa. The governor had written to the Lokayukta to initiate action. Meanwhile, Yeddyurappa has approached the Karnataka high court seeking quashing of Lokayukta's recommendations against him. The case is pending before the court.

According to the findings, South West Mining Company, a subsidiary of Jindal, had donated Rs 10 crore to the Prerana Education Society owned by Yeddyurappa's family members and Jindal Steels purchased one acre from Yeddyurappa's family members in Bangalore for Rs 20 crore, though the guidance value fixed for the land by the government was Rs 1.40 crore.

Will Yeddyurappa and family members be arrested? "It depends on the circumstances. After scrutinizing the documents and evidence, the investigation officer will take a decision,'' said Lokayukta ADGP Jeevan Kumar Gaonkar.

Punjab BJP MLA Khurana arrested in Bribe Case

BJP MLA Raj Khurana in Punjab was arrested by the CBI for allegedly taking bribe. His house was raided on Wednesday night. He was sent to CBI custody for two days. The incident came to light when the CBI team led by DIG Mahesh Aggarwal raided the residence of Khurana in Sector 39 in Chandigarh on Wednesday night and also questioned a government employee Devinder Singh, who is also the Chief Parliamentary Secretary (Finance) in the Parkash Singh Badal-led SAD-BJP alliance government. In fact, Devinder had allegedly demanded money on behalf of Khurana to offer it to a Punjab minister for some official work. However, the CBI has not found any incriminating document from Khurana's residence.

Khurana represents Rajpura constituency. Both Khurana and Devinder were arrested under Prevention of Corruption Act. The case came few days after Sohan Singh Thandal, Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) in the SAD-BJP alliance, was sentenced by the Mohali Court for having disproportionate assets.

NOT EVEN IN DREAMS!

In most of the cases, corruption starts from above. Unless big sharks are tamed, we cannot expect even reduction of corruption, what to say of banning the corruption. Rather, you can expect the graph of corruption ever rising unless some very effective monitoring system is introduced that too through extremely honest and non-Governmental organizations.

Even Anna Hazare stated that with his Jan Lokpal Bill only up to 65% of corruption can end. That means 35% of corruption would still remain there.

Shouldn't Yeddy be recalled?

Bangalore, Aug 18: The hearing on the applications seeking anticipatory bail by dethroned former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa were postponed till August 22 by the Karnataka High Court on Thursday.

The ousted chief minister, who was forced to quit after being indicted by the recently retired Lokayukta Justice N Santhosh Hegde in his final report submitted to the State Government on illegal mining, had moved the state High court following issuance of summons by the Lokayukta special court on August 8 in a case on a private complaint alleging irregularities in denotification of land acquired by the Bangalore Development Authority.

Yeddyurappa had also approached the high court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with another case on a complaint lodged against by the State JD(S) general secretary and spokesman Y S V Datta, who is also the party MLC, on the alleged financial irregularities in the award of tenders for the Upper Bhadra irrigation project to a private firm.

Justice L Narayana Swamy, who heard arguments on both complaints, granted time till August 22 to the Lokayukta police probing the case, to file its objections and adjourned hearing of both applications.

It may be recalled that the State Governor H R Bhardwaj had accorded sanction to the Lokayukta police to initiate criminal proceedings against the former chief minister as there was no need for him to refer the issue to the State Cabinet following Yeddyurappa’s demitting office.

In the first case, senior counsel for the petitioner Yeddyurappa sought to make Sirajin Basha, the city-based advocate who had filed the complaint against him, a party and filed a memo to this effect.

The second case on the complaint by the JD(S) MLC, the Lokayukta police have already filed an FIR in the special court.

Even by Anna's Jan Lokpal Bill, reduction in corruption can be expected, but total ban cannot be expected, as where power is corruption becomes the inseparable part in one or the other form. Abuse of power cannot be avoided by people in power. Besides Jan Lokpal Bill, we need modification of election laws authorising people to call back elected representatives like Manish Tiwari, Kapil Sibal, Ambika Soni, and several others, who support coorupt people and consider vpters as outsiders who elect them. They feel they are supreme not the people who elected the representatives of parliament and assemblies.

Its in the roots...from home to college to jobs,to politics....and the list goes on.Atleast not in this life.Actually speaking ,Corruption cannot be banned as it was never openly issued for use.It came to us from British heritage.they went away leaving the remains of corruption in our country. This was where it got in our roots. We can change ourselves but not the whole India and am sure all Indians are not ready to take the first step...as all are waiting for others to change.

May the World community reduce / stop it, it may be a lesson to us to learn & practice. Till then.... India's corruption is not a single variable that can be thought off , to be isolated. But, it is a complex variable, it will only give you an imaginary solution that You & I can not see, but only, can be  perceived as solution.Mean to say it will continue.

THEORETICALLY IT IS POSSIBLE OR ONE CAN  HAVE A DREAM LIKE THAT.PRACTICALLY SPEAKING THE TRUTH,ONE THING THAT IS ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE IN INDIA IS TO ROOT OUR CORRUPTION.LAWS CAN BE PROMULGATED,RULES CAN BE FORMED,LEGISLATION CAN BE PASSED.THE SITUATION PREVALENT IS CORRUPTION IS INFUSED IN OUR BLOOD.WHETHER WE LIKE IT OR NOT IT IS THE TRUTH.

MAY BE IF GOD DECIDES IT IS POSSIBLE.

Sorry Mr. Sandeep if i'm being a little rude,, '

But let me tell they are handling everything,,,they decide whom to teach and how much to teach,

they decide whom to support and whom to throw out .. '

please refer to my above posted argument..

they are running a bloody big business,,, and we are directly or indirectly a part of it,,,

there are many more example which are telling some other stories,,,

if u r talking about hospital let me tell u there is policy now a days,,  first admit the patient and then we will treat him or her,... or you can go another one,, ( to listen the same words,) cause they paying a lot to govt to run their hospitals and to regain that money they are squeezing us,,,

i would rather say you just give me any one example and i tell you the effects of corruption over that directly or indirectly,,,,

it is not made by single person .. we are all part of it knowingly or unknowingly..

they decide which team to win in criket, they can throw any MODI out when his part was done,,,,They can do any sort of nuclear agreements they want (123 agreement)

they can out their own banners on the national highway project which was intiated by some body else,, they increase or decrease prices of anything,,

and lastly they have some expert employees which will describe every possible reasons for their dids

so lets not fight on our own dids...

Hey gentlemen ,,,,, I think there should not be other side of this debate,,, sorry to say..

It is a die or die situation at any cost it is not going to change...

all of us those people have started treating politics a Business,, which they are doing it very professionally.... they can make what they want system is not ours its their ,,,,

they are running a business called politics,, they have their companies,,like S.., BJ..., MN...., CONG....., ABCDEFGHIJKL,,,,,,,

I might be talking very pessimistically...but i cant deny the fact....

Suresh jii it is so difficult to ban corruption in India because every single person is part of our system and they involve directly or indirectly in corruption. I am not saying that all are corrupt but 95% people in system is involve in corruption so it is not possible...

Kautilya in his arthasastra states that corruption can be minimised but not eliminated completely.  In India it is not possible at all, the corruption starts from the election system as the voters in this country accept all kinds of inducements for participating in the election process in kind or cash.  Parties have come to power on the basis of the doles promised in the elections by different parties and accepting the more lucrative offers.  Unless the people decide that they are not going to accept anything in return for their participation in the election process, corruption cannot be weeded out.

yeah,it may seem impossible. but if ppl doesnt give bribe wen asked, wat can  other person do. if we stand firm to it @ all levels n go according to the rules der surely is a chance to stop corruption. there should b a severe punishment for those involved in corruption but I don't think many laws could completely wipe out corruption. it is easy to speak like that but so hard to implement. corruption is so deeply knitted in our society..

Corruption is not like tobbaco that can be banned........corruption is somewhat related to character....pass a law to ban it but if character remains corrupted n corruptible..will the law work???....change the character, invoke the conscience....n see the difference....

I respect your views, Manoj & support you.It is really not possible to bane corruption in India,as we are used to it in daily life.

Just take a household case of delivery of cylinder . Though delivery charges are taken/considered while charging for cylinder still we gave 10/20 rupees or sometimes Rs.100 for urgent delivery & not waiting for our turn/number to come.So it is highly impossible to bane the corruption in India.

Thanks for the referral Mr.Manoj Kumar.

In my opinion corruption can not be eradicated in India, even all over the world. Giving bribe and accepting it becomes a normal/routine matter. It is firmly rooted in the minds of the people in our society. Who will eradicate/stop corruption?

Whether the people

Whether the bureaucrats

Whether the politicians

Whether the government with the political will

Whether our social systems/organizations

Whether the Indian laws/courts           WHO WILL BELL THE CAT ?

BUT I AM NOT BLAMING EVERYBODY, THERE ARE PEOPLE STILL IN OUR COUNTRY WHO ARE FREE FROM ANY CORRUPTION, BUT THE NUMBER IS VERY FEW.   BECAUSE OF THEM ONLY WE ARE GETTING RAIN.

Why only in India - is it at all possible to ban corruption anywhere in the world? Legal system and social awareness and education system may work together for reduced level of corruption, but some people will have corrupt mindset that will encourage them to find some or other way to practice there skill!

See God is also in trouble as far as India's corruption is concerned. Our ranking in World Football is 133 but in corruption it is 3.

Is this not a matter of shame even to God. Very well said Manoj.

I do not think it is possible. In fact corruption is so in rooted in the Indian psyche that maybe we cannot live without corruption, without facing basic problems. An experiment can be tried out here. A model town with all amenities can be populated by volunteers who are not corrupt. The town should be such that the experts studying it have access everywhere and every time. Let the people live for 1 year or two and then let the results be published. I think corruption is just not taking money. It is something more.

Corruption is an idea, a presence. It was always there. We just named it. To eliminate something-you need to know its weakpoints. One is shame but again that works only in certain cases. Remember that scene in Munnabhai 2 tells the old man to face the corrupt govt officer by removing his clothes. That worked due to shame as the officer was singled out. But if no one had laughed, the old man would have streaked for nothing.

Let us first try to define corruption, their battery limits and its strength and weaknesses first before thinking of eliminating corruption.

I think its not possible & nearly impossible to ban corruption. We have anti corruption squad, Vigelance department etc in our country. Lets introspect how much they are successful in abiding corruption. Leave catching the culprit & getting him booked & getting justice. Iam sure many people are not aware of existance of such departments to counter corruption.

There is a nexies between the Politcians & corrupt burycrats. The link should be broken. There should be some evideance the justice is same for all in the heart & mind of people then only ban on corruption can be forseen.

However the question is  who shall take the iniative ? We have Justice Hegde the lokautha of Karnatak feeling helpless. Thats the power of corruption. God can only save & ban it. However God will also not do coz corrupt people donate money to him...........

While a lot of computerising of governmental functions is on the agenda of the UPA government(what with National eGovernance Plan, etc), corruption is not likely to disappear...it's only going to reduce. There will be scope of corruption in some field or another...whenever a government or private party has to exercise discretion in any activity...such a putting a fine/charge on someone or catching someone doing an illegal act...and this is more likely when no one's watching not even a surveillance camera.
