Ayurvdic, Unani, Sidhha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) has the long traditional history in India to serve the vast population in indigenous way.

However, in the past few decades these alternative medicines become the famous among the all strata of population creating the huge market potential. This market potential has been tapped by huge corporate sector and they started producing medicines which claims to cure from cold to diabetes, heart diseases and HIV also. The export potential of ayurveda is pegged at Rs 11,500 crore (Rs 115 billion) and the domestic market size is Rs 2,000 crore.

the "BHASMA" used in the preparations contain heavy metals which has shown adverse effects on the organs leading to blindness and organ failures.

The use of LEAD is rampant in many medicines which may pose a threat to the human health and has not been tested with large sample population and do not have ENOUGH convincing scientific data. THUS, Patients safety during and after trials is at stake and poses a difficult threat.

However the validity and scientific reasoning has been debatable and questionable through out the years.

To deal with this sceptical situations Drug Contorolller General of India has issued the new norms which stated that the testing of this drugs on humans is necessary befor marketing the end product.

However, the decision has invited the mix reactions from the pharmaceutical companies, researchers and general population.

there were few key issues emerged as the infrastructure and the resources availability to follow these norms.

Moreover, I feel there is tremendous need for pharma companies to divert their attention to these concern and equip themselves to adhere to the ethical norms and guidelines to safe guard the rights of the human beings.
