Sales of BlackBerry devices have dropped in India following uncertainty over whether the government would allow access to the smartphone's encrypted email and messaging services beyond the Aug 31 deadline.

Many dealers said their sales have declined in recent days as customers find it dicey to invest in Blackberry phones.  So, is this the end for Blackberry phones all over?

I don't think so it is the end of the tunnel for blackberry phones world over, I mean I am one of the user of Blackberry phone and I don't want that to happen, I mean  they are one hell of an organization to take something like this, the whole RIM team will make sure that the problem is solved, and they can't take lightly the Indian market, this is the market which is having mobile phone sales like anything, with already 600 million mobile phone connections and growing at great pace, blackberry can't afford to let this off. So they will change few things so that everybody is happy I mean the Security agencies in India and others who are concerned over with their email options which cannot be traced back...so blackberry will make some changes if not some serious damage will be done.

I don't know about all over but in India, and without master key option which can take care of these things, I think blackberry will face problems every where, this is a serious concern where security agencies cannot track down things, and blackberry should give options for such things, they can't do business without addressing such an important issue at hand.

Surely this is not the end. The options to face the security challenges are still in evaluation phase.Given that the Blackberry services are used mostly in the business segment,it is not so easy to take such decision without thinking the alternative solutions. The usage of Blackberry phones may be slow further with the growing smart phones and pleasing features but the Blackberry can't be banned

Research in Motion (RIM), the creators of Blackberry are in process of getting the intercepted codes from enterprise mail servers in a readable format. Though nothing concrete has come up till now, it is certain that they will come up with some alternative solution in this particular regard. This concern raised by our government is genuine and is required to be addressed in an appropriate manner as it has a potential security threat leading to a major lapse. Let's hope for the best as I am looking forward to get a blackberry soon.. :) All the best to RIM to get it cracked !

Researh in Motion (RIM) the leading developer team for Blackberry is behind this particular issue to get the coded interceptions from enterprises in a readable format. Though nothing concrete has come up till now, they will certainly come up with some alternative idea as to what can be done in this particular requirement. Let's hope for the best as I am looking forward to buy a blackberry soon :)

Currently the messenger service and emails cannot be cracked. Security agencies suspect terrorists and money launderers could use these and escape detection. So to stop this, the government wants Blackberry to give the key to servers.

Thinking on Business terms they would not want to loose million of dollars as rightly pointed out by Amrita. I guess Security Issues are just a cover up for the Indian government  to push Blackberry out of India as Reliance is Interested in making a entry in this field.

All I can Say is God Bless India. The Rich don't need no god they have the Politicians, Police and the Law on their side.
