I feel toostep is best platform where we can share idea as per our interest on a single board.Here what I feel social network is also higher than other networking sites.Here we share our idea frankly and freely,can argue,can share.No other site can provide all these facilities.Toostep is the best of all.Although linkedin is also nice too.

The reason for such a success of twitter is because of its simplicity and clear cut goal. The idea is basically what is human social tendency:

  1. I should get small snippets of what my friends are doing or whats the latest buzz.
  2. I should be able send an update about myself as a one liner, keeping it extremely simple and effortless using any communication device.
though the concept is an old one borrowed from social networking apps of connected friends, but the beauty is scaling down to simplicity. So rather than making complicated social interaction twitter makes it simple by trimming it down to notifications, nothing more nothing less.  
The idea yet to be explored (or maybe its being already in use) is to use such notification platform for other uses, like an automated update from build or test server, and listeners/followers are notified immediately about the status, may stock market updates for each stock symbol, release notifications etc, the idea is basically too use twitters universal connectivity USP.

Twitter is a professional networking site rather than a social one..
And I agree it's a very successful one because of it's simplicity and micro blogs..

Linkedin, toostep, xing are also professional networking sites.. which are similarly popular and love all of them.. they all carry different innovative concepts towards networking.. Much Knowledgeable, sharable.. few magnetize by having recommendations, few for knowledge concepts/debates, earning points, few for business presentation and freee tickets to seminars, few just for the sake for getting in touch with freinds and collegues..

Orkut or Facebook.. comes more into social category.. to celebrate events in-life and share personal pics/movies with connections..

It will be successful, if you're are followed by targeted people. Otherwise, you will not be sees. Your message must have immediate impact. Your readers need to see what benefits you have for them. It's Micro-blogging. I do get some useful information and traffic from Twitter, but Toostep and LinkedIn will be a better bet for business. My Opinion, and experience.

    Twitter is the recent buzz. According to me twitter is similar to other social networking because there are other social networks like linkedin, toostep,etc.. which helps people to share their knowledge. So social networks are said to be successful only when they are useful for the people.

I have been on Twitter for a while now. I would not say it is more successful than the other social networks. Each is unique in it's own way. They all have it's advantages and disadvantages. I like Twitter because I am able to get many latest updates.
