The second, or preliminary, estimate of GDP for the second quarter was left unchanged from the first, or advance, estimate of -1%. This represented a modest upward surprise as expectations had been for the report to show an intensification of the quarterly decline to -1.5%. Is US Economy turning around?

It is difficult to see a turnaround in absolute terms, as this may take yet another quarter to confirm. There is a high probability of US Economy turning around, as there is a decline in jobless claims as well that is accompanying the less than expeted decline. The housing market is also reporting positive signs, this is a key element for the recovery of US economy. Consumer spending is said to be stabilizing. There is a wide expert view that further bail out may not be necessary. Busting of credit clogs and strengthening of regulatory supervision are emphasized by FED, which is looking forward to recovery in 2009. There are more in favour of a turn around in 2009 and less against it.

According to me not yet i would say after a large scale package of tax cuts and spending to boost the economy, the government now focus to cutting on  spending, even the economists there are split on whether the policies pursued by the Federal Reserve, which has cut interest rates to near zero and flooded financial markets with cash, would ultimately trigger a higher inflation. I still think the economy isn't growing.

US Economy is largely contributed by almost 80% of non-us citizens(migrants), untill unless all of them plan to return to their base, they will find one or another way to keep the economy strong !!!!, at the end of the day its migrant living population wanting to settle down at US.........

yes US economy is recovering from recession as economic indicators like unemployment rate and inflation rate are improving. But recent crisis in Libya and other middle east countries could affect US economy adversely.

USA still needs a long time to see a Turn Around.

The eason is that, the recession in USA is real, whereas in rest of the world, it is either impact of collapsing USA market or a panic reaction of USA collapse. The USA recession has been triggered by collapse of Banking business in series. The banks as well as big businesses have hold their acts together with stimulus by US government package. The signals of recovery, which are visible are artificially induced by US Govt.

real turn around of US will take time

I also think that still its not the time to say whether US markets are turning around or not. It still needs time to turn around. As soon as the world economy started becoming better, US government started pumping money in various sectors to strengthen the market demand. But because of not picking up of the demand yet, general public is a bit worried about the future. Also, the government had done a lot of tax cut during the recession time to generate money. Now it is trying to again make them normal. So, it doesn't show the economy to be turning around...

No I don't think that US economy will turn around so quickly. I think it will take another 6 months time to start recovering. US has put lot of stimulus package by bailing out few bankruptcy and pumping money in different sector to strengthen demand. However demand is not picking up as people are still conservative about future outcome.

Even though Federal rate is still 0% then also credit off take is not very high. Main reason is that organization has lost trust on each other. No one is ready to lend.

I believe it is very pre mature to say that the US markets are turing aruound..

The positive econimic numbers to an extend are reflecting the measures by the US government, tax incentives, stimlus packages...

I believe that the US will take a few more time to turn around, now we are just having the signs of turn around . . .

I would rather say Yes. Otherwise, MFs would not have grown in size and stature. We need MFs to grow even bigger, as the vulnerability of the stock markets to hot money flows from FIIs is some what undesirable. Domestic MFs make a lot of difference...

I guess Mr Narendra Modi did the same in a different way. In return Amitabh was asked to be the Brand Ambassador for Gujarat. This shows, as you go south of Vindhyas art kindles an appreciation without asking for anything in return. I also remember...
