During a recent speech, Intel's VP for enterprise systems, said virtualization offers an opportunity to create the data-center operating system of tomorrow. He also predicted that virtualization could bring about the death of the mainframe computer by allowing mainframe applications to be run virtually. So what do you think Will Virtualization cause the death of Mainframes....What are your views on this.......

 Yes The basic virtualisation technology, where operating system is enabled by technologies such as VMware's Vmotion and XenSource's XenMotion. Both allow virtual systems to be moved to a different server while they are running, and the Mainframes are considered to be far more expensive than x86 servers,

According to me Virtualization will enable a new data center operating system, So  Virtualization will bring profound changes to how we look at the data center, and  virtualization offers an opportunity to create the data center operating system of tomorrow. So virtualization in future will bring death of mainframes...

I think mainframes will remain for much more time as Virtualization still haven't shown that dependency. We still haev long way togo.

No i don't agree with aditya that virtualization will cause the death of mainframes, Even though the mainframes are more expensive than X86 servers, but have a reputation of being extremely stable. Firms therefore don't try replacing them.
