. The next generation of wireless, called Wi-Max  is a quantum leap. Wi-Max hotspots will span distances of up to several miles instead of just a few hundred feet. Some Internet pioneers, such as venture capitalist and former Cisco chief technical officer Judy Estrin, think overlapping Wi-Max hotspots will remake the world's telecommunications infrastructure in only a few years. The precedent is how routers made widespread Internet use possible.
