I would prefer corporate than family run business.  In corporates you can feel free to give your feedback but that isn't the case with family rum business. In family run business we find lot of politics...

corporates favour "level playing field", whereas its marred by "prejudices" and "closed mind-set" in, most of the cases, family-run business!

Corporate office functions on certain rules and systems. But, as far as family run business functions on whims of the proprietor.  Literally rules have no place in it. It has its advantage and disadvantages as well.

Hi

I would be a best specimen to comment this(undebatable ;) ..as I joined family run business. after  a decade of corporate office- top companies including Infosys technology.

Though there is distinct advantage that people cannot vicitmise by official politics, but to just discharge my duty in a professional manner, systematically becomes an issue.

In a family run business you can give your feedback much better, because it is more personal. Assuming that we don't talk about a bad run family business, where family members are running the show like a bad comedy.

Working in such environment gives you the feeling that you are part of that kind of business, much more then a corporate run company. And of course it is much more personal.

I think that it totally depends on the business and the size of it. I worked (many years ago) for Van Zanten BV in Holland, a family owned and run company specialized in import and export of flowers. That was a family run business and worked very well. Because it was family run, management tried to let everyone feel that they were part of the 'family'. The rewards were also much better then a normal corporate company and everything was much more personal then normal.

At the end of the working day, there was always a drink and some sweets to eat. Every time at the end of the week we went to a bar and drink and socialize together. Every month, all our families, including children, were invited in a social gathering and we all came!
