Absolutely boring and I hate it nowadays. When I need to program something in any language, I fall almost asleep while doing that. All those innovating things are things which are not so innovating after all when you are doing it. Not many things are new, they are all old ideas with a new jacket. Sorry about that, but that is the truth. Some things might be different like the reach of the potential users (i.e. Internet), but there are not many new things out there. Technologies are also old and nothing new under the sun for some time. Take the iPhone and iPad. Those amazing computers are really amazing, but the iPad looks suspicious like Tablet computers and those things exists already since Adan and Eve, nothing new. The iOS is also not new, because Apple came with this more then 20 years ago. What more? Ah, dotnet. Well, it is on its way down at the moment and will disappear over a couple of years, just like anything else. Java? Also old, it is restricted and also not a good alternative and not exciting anymore. PHP? Old. ASP? Old. HTML? Old. XML? Old. Ah, the Google toys? Old, they copied and undusted some old goodies and made it look new. Andoid? Also, old. Social media and social websites? Well, that is a bit new. Or is it? No, it's not really; it is nothing else then applying the good old marketing techniques and methodologies when you do it good, but it is still exciting, because what is new is that you can reach billions instead of the hundreds of people. I think I'm too old for this stuff. Lost count how many years I'm in the IT, program in too many computer languages that I also lost count how many. They all look like each other with some exceptions. All those thousands of servers, client software, websites, devices I programmed look like each other and I must say, finally, that it is really boring. People are must more interesting.

if the company is facebook or Google or even a start up with a mission or the work is cutting edge innovation and implementation of advanced concepts ,then i guess its a challenge . Can similar things be said to work being done for someone else who has given specific requirements including the mad deadlines and pays fat packages?

IT career is like a Video game. If you were to explain to someone hundred years back that one day there would be an X-Box and people will spend hours (not to talk about those who spend days) playing games, sitting in one place, sometimes not even in a chair and it would be very exciting (opposite of boring), he would probably advise you to see a physiatrist. Even if you (most of us) told our grandfathers that people could actually depart from reality and spend more time on Farm-Villa, he would ask you to offer two “Rakat of Nimaz” and ask god to give you “Hidayat” or whatever is applicable based on ones religion. Our entire generation acknowledges X-Box and Farm-Villa but there is a limited set of people who would g crazy for them. X-Box, Farm-Villa and IT Career are always exciting for those who have a passion for them. Even when you have a passion, same game and same job will get boring after a while. That is the reason why new games keep coming and new projects keep coming. What is more exciting than IT Career? Probably a lot of things if you look at them as presenting unique situations every time and nothing at all if you think it is all about coding and coding. For that matter please consider the following: How boring is it to be a cricket player, you have to face same ball again and again. Through your career you are just waiting for that ball coming to you and you have to hot it. “Poor Sachin” How boring is it to be a doctor, you have to face nothing but patients, again and again and worse, you can’t even retire is real sense. How boring is it to be a lawyer, “tareek pe tareek.” Same “My Lord.” This bloody judge, he can’t even wear his “patloon” properly and I have to call him “Lordship.” There is nothing more exciting than IT career as far as the career is concerned. Now coming to the second part, please make a distinction here, I do not consider challenging opposite of boring. Something can be challenging and boring for instance financial accounting. Something can be neither challenging nor boring and 80% of the code we write falls in this category. There is only 20% that is challenging. When you look from the perspective of career, IT career is very challenging in a number of ways. I would like to leave it open ended there ………….

I would not say it is boring but yes it is monotonous and working on some software time and again will get boring but it is also challenging at the same time where you need to write codes where you are making things simpler and simpler and its not an easy job and they are not getting paid so high just to sit in that big office of theirs.
