This is the right time to put our judiciary (from Top to bottom) under a scanner.  It has to come clean and any element (virus) has to be eliminated.   Accountability of judges of HC/SC has to be revamped and contempt of court Act has to repealed forthwith.

Judicial Accountability was much talked about when the case of impeachment of a Justice of Supreme Court three decades ago! Eminent Jurists, viz., Justice Krishna Iyer, Justice A.N. Verma et al have been writing to the authorities time and again to bring about sanity in Judiciary. No takers so far! This profession demands utmost Self-restraint, self-discipline, self-respect and public accountability. Much has been talked about, too little has been done!

Corruption in judiciary is the cause for this subject. Scanner is necessary every where and in every walk of public life. Contempt of Court cannot be repealed. It is a weapon to safe guard the dignity of the judiciary. It is like a sleeping serpent. You allow it to be there as it is. If you are mischievous enough and want to see what it does in case you want to play with it , it will certainly look to you seriously with its sound bussss. Therefore be on your guard. Don't touch it. As long as you want the judiciary to be responsible and accountable so long it is a must for judiciary to safe guard its dignity, that is why contempt of court is a must and it shall continue to be in force.

Absolutely Correct. But now its time that serious steps be taken in order to protect the honor and dignity of Judicial System. However, I don't see any use of repealing the whole Contempt of Courts Act for that.

Judiciary is not free from corruption therefore at least their controversial decisions should be under review. The law of Nemo debet esse judex in propria causa - No one can be judge in his own case, should be applied in taking any decision regarding judiciary.

I totally agree with you here Mr. Lalkumar there is an urgent need to do a background check from the bottom to the top, the law minister Mr. Moily should order this as soon as possible to avoid further humiliation against the justice system in the country where the CJI's are corrupt...when people who need to protect the law and fight for it are against the law then India will be a failed state.

Should we repeal the Contempt of Court Act and introduce accountability of all Judicial Officers including CJI?  Comment

Let us not blame the entire judiciary based on one or two stray cases. Our judiciary is the best with its limited resources and staff. Contempt of Court is an essential and required Act, without which judiciary will lose its respect, it rightly deserves.

Judiciary is one of the three arms of the very edifice of democracy. The laziness, corruption, bureaucratic delays more commonly known as red-tappism etc give fuel to the otherwise lethargic legal system to be too slow. As the saying goes "justice...

A great story, perfect example of communion with God. God's hands are spread everywhere and he acts through someone like the lady in the story. It should be a lesson for those who go after earning money throwing all those virtues of humanity in wind.
