I endorse your views in tot Mr. Kastury. I would like to add a few more points, viz., shelf-life analysis of perishable goods, apply scientific techniques to alert staff to take out goods on display which are nearing expiry date, a proper ABC analysis to be done on monthly basis to identify the goods that are not on regular demand to the godown to allow more and more items that are sold on regular basis.

Hidden costs like Inventory carrying cost,Improper utilization of space, benefits of getting right information on time, knowing what to measure provide so much direct cost savings and thus improves the bottom line. Information systems, Technology and lean process design will greatly help achieve this.
