It is the lack of both these factors that leads to brain drain. If these were available here, then no one would even look towards the west. Actually both the points given here are the same. While the former states its positively, the latter states it negatively.

science has been divided into technology and science and hence science has been given less weightage.science should be incorporated as part of technology where science and technology go in hand in hand. academically science has been given less weightage.we have to bridge this gap.

I think there is wrongly playing an existence dependency between the value of education and money.

I agree it is most of the time not recognising the value employee adds rather than attraction or money which leads to quiting the jobs and migration.

Not only lack of motivation and resources, what is lacking in fostering R&D in India is bureaucratic red-tapism and lengthy procedure to obtain anything. On top of that the top-rung scientists in the CSIR-run organisations in the country (as many as 29 of them) have a protective cover and are impenetrable by the young scientists. Many of their research papers face dead-end, as some of their original contributions are ascribed to some higher-ups! Top scientists in tall order who have risen to great heights were also involved in this type of mud-slinging exercise. A couple of years back, some of the erstwhile senior officers from DRDO made startling revelation about the 1998 Pokhran blast! Every third rocket propelled from ISRO fails. No formal enquiry for such failures were conducted and people are unaware of the actions taken. Lot many can be said about the sorry-state of affairs. A lot of imports of lab equipment and machinery are imported and do we really know the status of these items in the research laboratories?

Lack of motivation towards science in India leads to brain drain.Teaching is the most ignored proffesion by the society. Its a common perception that one who doesnot find anything join teaching. Some what it is correct also. But why is it so?When teachers are not the best brains than how come the their product be the best so best brains find it difficult in India to work and research in India.

I agree with Ms. Padmaja Baskar, Mere motivation & resource is not draining India's Brain. But also, the working style, standard of living, scope for individual development , social status etc contribute a bit.

yes, padmaja you have rightly said, Money and better facilities are the key point. We have to create an environment with latest art of technology, equipments with good mentoring/guidance will prove to be more fruitful. Every college/educational institution should raise to that level instead of provding exam oriented subject(s)

Very correctly said, Padmaja, but this is not the only reason for brain drain as these intelligent people from IIT,& those who learnt from foreign universities don't have the appropriate or the right opening as per their caliber. Thanks for referral, Padmaja.
