Satish Shetty, who had been invoking the Right to Information Act to wage a lonely battle against the land mafia in the Maval area of Pune district, was hacked to death early this morning in Talegaon. As Mr. Shetty had brought to light a string of irregularities in Maval comprising the areas of Lonavla, Talegaon and Dehu Road. His family alleged those he had exposed were behind the murder.

Shetty brought to light a fake registration racket in Maval. The investigation was launched after Shetty complained. It is still going on. Several tax evasion cases have been detected. Government land had been sold without permission of the competent authority. what do you think guys, Will we ever see the end of land mafia?

The incident described is a ghastly criminal act for wrongful gain of some (mafia) in the society who are mere parasites. Such forces must be restrained in strong hands and uprooted. This will however require the credibility of 'our' people whom we elect and those who work in administration under their shadow takes a call. Mafia and easy money go side by side. They grow on the strength of illgotten money spread under the carpet to be enjoyed by the people in power and common man too.

I don't think Land mafia will ever end and untill there is empty space people will make fake registration of the place and sell it to someone else and with corruption there is no tracking of how many such cases happened till date, I remember a movie which had dealt the land mafia in a humourous way I guess the movie name was 'Khosla ka Ghosla', but this is a serious case  and this land mafia still exists and nothing is happening because even the Government officials are also part of it and then ultimately politicians who run these things.

people like satish shetty who use rti for bringing out the information of land records and after knowing the irregularities instead of fighting by putting up legal case alone should take help of media or news channels since this land mafia people are in power and with the help of government officers and police will make ones life miserable and funny thing is comman man will just why should he have to fight them doesnt he know them so now bear the consequences no comman man will come to help so unless comman man do not help other comman man and fight together things like satish shetty murder is going to be repeated no end

Digitize all Land records and issue UID to  all Land ownres without further delay. Otherwise why in PUNE.. each corner of India is loosing whistle blowers like MR SHETTY.

Abhik, you are right. & land mafia are there because they are representative of political parties. & if you stand against any of them, then you have to pay heavy price for that.

   So we have only two option for our safety & that is either be with them or don't deal with them. It is unstoppable through out the world.

Sorry! But I think where there is so much greed, and so much money in Real Estate & Land that I dont think that the Land Mafia can be stopped.

All good behaviour and intentions seem to fly out of the window when there is so much money involved. 

We  read so many horror stories where own family members commit murder for just a few square feet of land. How are we going to prevent total strangers from capturing acres and acres of land.

We read of Revenue officials, Polititians, Police who have scores of land-grab cases against them. The very people to whom we ask for protection!

This will never stop.....I am on this side,but I am much more inclined towards thinking how we can stop this.As rightly put by Mr.Alok this country is full of legends who practised love and peace, destroyed evil...today our sole enemy is corruption,think deep into this and everything is related to it.The greed to earn more n more no matter how long it is going to stay with us,we are growing into wicked minds thinking we need more to carry it even after death.Guys we all need to come up..stop the practise of corruption...I owe complete respect to Jago re Jago group the only one coming out hard at this devil(to my knowledge). Who are these mafia's.... some one from us!. A human(not a super power).But we lack in unity, guts,and the will to fight this.(isnt it we are getting selfish?). I think we are!We all need to eradicate this from our side first then we can stop it on the other side.

Abhik is right. Land mafias can not be eradicated as corrupt politicians are backing them up for money and power. India is a funny country. This is the place of Budhha, Ramakrishna, Vivekananda Sri Ram, Sri Krishna and so many enlightened souls, but alas, still India is one of the most corrupt country in the world. No personal offence please. Truth is truth. Land or other mafias can not be removed unless our leaders follow the path of truth, divine love and peace. This is the core of any human civilization and human religion. Love and peace be with us.
