Do you think layoff and downsizing the number of employees in an organisation can benefit the organisation during the downturn and later stages ?

Well the idea behind starting this debate is that organisation see one the positive side of layoff. And I wanted to know how many think that the layoff has a negative effect on the organisation.

Hope to see you all participating...

Here goes the question again

Will the organisation benefit from Layoffs ?

Of course the organisation will benefit from the layoffs, check out so many organisation is continuously downsizing their workforce to tackle the current financial crisis, I don't think they want to make any loss.

NOT AT ALL. Company who cannot be with empoyee at bad times, then can't expect in good times.I strogly feels,Firstly, employess who had been laid offs won't join the same comapnies again untill & unless he has been paid handsomely.Secondly,he'll neither recommend anyone to join that company as per his bitter experience nor like to speak about.

Because end of the day,he is asnwerable to his children/family for job loss and not his boss or company.

company will benefeit for a short period of time only moneterily but then the loss of good talent, morale, productivity will certainly overrule .extreme talent can't be brought for peanuts so company has to counterbalance it somewhere . The leverage must not be added to layoffs but to cost efficient manufacturing techniques or macro savings .Good people lost during this passe will never be found back and company will have to rely on lesser talented deckhands.

Layoffs can result decrease in trust in the workplace also it can lead to greater stress among the employees.

Layoffs can have a negative effect on the employees which further will decrease commitment, morale, productivity. Once the morale of an employee decreases, it can cost a lot of the organisation if those employees are working where a slight mistake or delay can lead to huge loses.

Take in case of project, with decrease morale, the completion time of the project can increase with may result in huge loss for both the client and the organisation.

No, I don' think the organisation will benefit from layoff because once you start to show doors to your employees, the morale of the other employees decreases and its impact can be seen on there productivity which is also going southwards...

Yes Sir this is the best way. We cannot expect someone to trust us as long as we are not transparent.
I am neutral just to comment I am here.. It does not mean I am on this side.. :) A company stands tall with the good balance between all the sources not alone HR or sales.. We can't compare them..Can we.. One can't go long without another..
