As a foreigner, it's not to me to say to you if it's "good or bad" to seek for global talents. I've only to ask you one thing: is or isn't diversity a value in itself, that could be leveraged for the business sake? If your answer is "yes", well there are obvious consequences. If it's "no", there are consequences too. In both cases, the logical conequences (always for the business sake) are not only related to Global/ Local Talent decision (:-) My 2 cents

This is the best way to defy any reservation and cultural bias. Globalization does not mean obliterating existing cultures and traditions but to know and appreciate them. It signifies peaceful co-existence, which can be possible be bringing down our mental barriers. If Indira Nooyie can be the head of Pepsico, then why not the vice versa, to encourage the talented people the opportunities they deserve, irrespective of nationality, religion, political and cultural boundaries.

Definitely as time goes by and as the global scenario becomes more and more global, one of the things that will happen is the recruiting of top talent regard less of national identity. It is only a natural progression of growth. Indian companies will need people who can take them up to the next level global growth. Such growth is also expensive and organizations will look for people who can definitely deliver the goods.

India is such a country which has been giving more thrust upon building human resources and at the higher level. It is the reality the nature has given us enormous resources including human resources. The fact is that we are not in a position to utilize those resources in proper manners and for the betterment and uplifting conditions of our people. However, India produces talented human resources but those are being utilized by the global players. Since we have been living in a globalized world and we have innumerable quantity of higher level of talents and the world can't think beyond the Indian talents. This is why we are proud of it but on the other way we re-grate that we are not yet in a position to utilize them in our own country!

Geocentric approach (i.e. HRM policies to hire global talent) is adopted when firms derive substantial part of their revenue from international operations. Tata group already earns a majority of its revenues from foreign operations so bringing in global talent makes sense. Corporates are usually not motivated by altruistic concerns to hire global talent, They do so out of the demands of the situation they are in or expect to be.

Indian companies are looking for new talents because as seen in most of the companies, we try to follow western culture of making business. We have adopted most of the trends which have been proven success full in todays global market this kind of hire will defiantly bring change in the way of doing business, the work culture, etc. As specially the way the Indian leader leads his company will be redirected to an international level of competency.

Indian companies employing foreigners is the mark the policy that they wan't to get better understanding of foreign market to see it with their perception and have a better foothold in their markets . Otherwise i don't find any reason India being a country blessed with the best of talent pool should look forward to employ foreigners .

One of the reasons for India becoming a preferred outsourcing centre is basically the cost-effective labour resource (cheap). Indian companies may become costlier if the mantra of global talent comes into effect and the our cost competitiveness may be lost. Local talent is tremendous and infact developed countries are impressed with the performance of indians. Hence there is no point in going for golbal talents as mantra of recruitment for indian companies. However, few deputations from foreign countries is not avoid able for some of the MNCs.

I don't think it is rorrect to say blindly that Indian companies have no other option but to go for Global Talent or hiring foreigners. As Jugnu has commented, it would be wishful thinking if any company thinks that just by hiring a non-Indian the branding of the company can be changed or more business would come. Whatever growth has come not because the top indian companies hired foreigners but because of the efficiency and value proposition they gave to their customers. Hiring Global Talent is a weapon and as any other weapon this is something to be used judiciously. Venkat

No...This can't be the New Mantra for Indian companies at all! We have enough talents in our country to fulfill our requirement of globally acting operations! Our people are enough intelligent and smart to think and act globally! I think there is no need to hire foreign talent unless the situation demands it...like to get exposure to particular foreign market!

Global talent hunt has been on for a long time now. A professional has to be competent enough to attract corporates from world over an this trend can not be lookedin as a change in Indian businesses. Its been noted with a few companies and that's just about it. No, this is certainly NOT the mantra for Indian companies.

A person was enjoying peanuts from a small pouch and putting the shells back in same pouch without even caring to create a partition leave aside look for another pouch. It took awhile yet he noticed finding peanuts from used shells was getting difficult. The lesson the sooner we realize and start to improve on home strengths the better it is, lest we learn the lessons the hard way. An Indian Manager for sure is expected to know the conditions and resources better in India and if the bigger market is here all the more important it becomes. It is strengths of knowledge that differentiate not nationalities. Ghar ka jogi Jogna, Bahar ka jogi sidhh is a very old saying.

I agree with you, intelligenence can not be compared , if you want some body to handle a region outside india for that kind of requirement a non-indian can be hired but we can't say that they are more intelligent or smart than indian, everyone has some speciality like Japaniese have better quality process and if a company hires a Japaneese to improve their quality process , than its fairly understandable and we can no way doubt the intelligence of indians, only thing lacking in indians is unity , they become self centered which is the bad part

It stands to reason that any company will do what is best for it , especially when recruiting senior management level personnel. Thus not only will the board look at the calibre and talent of the candidates , it will also look at whether the prospective candidate fits in with the ethos or culture of the company. This was specifically mentioned by Mr. Ratan Tata when he was asked about his succession plans. No company will recruit a foreigner CEO / MD / ... just because it is fashionable. Just imagine , a new CEO takes over , and your best designer or financial controller or any other head of department leaves because he / she doesn't like the new CEO's working style. What has the company gained ? It has only created a new problem. There can be only a few reasons to consider a foreigner : 1. The talent which you perceive in the foreigner , is not available locally 2. The nationality of the foreigner is one which will enable the organization to penetrate that market e.g. you recruit a Korean or a Chinese so that you have an advantage in the Korean or Chinese market 3. You hope to do M & A some time in the future with foreign companies.

Localizing on HR related issues will put Indian companies back on square 1. again. HR revoles aroune the ATTITUDE of the managed and the ones who manage. The issue is very complex than it seems. My experience says localization was never been productive in HR related issues
