Thanks Tina for raising the issue of reservation which warrants a serious debate. With due appology to my friends who are on the other side of the fence I put one question:How long we will continue with this system of reservation? Let us fix a date line and give full stop.Because we can not continue with this reservation policy for an indefinite period.I agree that for whom it is meant deserves a better and fair deal. Befor we bring an end to this policy we must put a system in place to raise their standard in all aspect right from their admission for education till their pass out and compete with others.Provide basic requirments at free of cost including the cost of coaching in brand institutions enabling them to compete with all."Career open to talents."Let us wish the end of this reservation policy at the earliest.

Caste Reservation will need to continue for 1000 years in India. Intercaste marriage must be made mandatory. Only then this will be eliminated. Refer to this documentary in Youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgDGmYdhZvU

I agree with Muralidharan that "If you give them adequate skill, they don't require reservation at all!". But the problem with adequate skills development or reservation is rightly pointed out by Srinivas..."The problem about reservations is that in most of the cases, they are "grabbed" by the creme-dela-creme among the BC group.". We are not able to implement this properly. Hence a few rich dalits and politicians are using this to their advantage generation after generation.

Yes. Reservation is the answer and the way out! Do you know, a large number of the deprived class do not even know such Reservation policy exists to uplift them. I've seen a large number of them in hinterland who deserve better treatment but not aware of the opportunities abound! So, there is a creamy layer that takes away their opportunities, who are well settled. We are interested in extending subsidy, not skill development. If you give them adequate skill, they don't require reservation at all!

First we need some basic information to solve this puzzle like 1.Equity among the social and religious groups maintained? 2.Are we (political party) ready to lose vote bank? 3.Can we accurately divide our people in poor and non poor? 4.Where is the database? Probable it will continue.

You are telling all these because you are sitting in the closed airconditioned chamber of your family looking aqt costly TV. Please come out in the sunlight take a cycle and roam in the community of adivasis and tribal people. Hear their woes. They are cheated looted and uprooted from their home. No one crioes for that.Their ladies are used for merrymaking and no police case is booked. Ages they have been punished for no faqult of theirs. So let them tqake a bit advantage. How many cases can you site where upper caste people has done less crime than them eg buying degrees, question paper or faking marksheet gainin entry in professional courses. Just take the statistics and you will find the percentage of your estimation fasr far lower than their acts. Poor sufferer let us have some sympathy for them. They have the right to live equally like us. Please rad my blog http://bleedingchalsatribe.blogspot.com/ and visit their face book Asyds Chalsa see photographs taken by me. If possible either interact or visit them then tell me what you are telling is correct.

Yes, Reservation is indeed required... But not on the basis of caste, the parameters needs to be redefined. The discrimination should go and people should not fear survival.
For eg. you may make it on economy in three layers,
- Annual Family income less than 3.00 L reservation is required for education and education must be 100% free and also reservation for Job.
- Annual Family income more than 3.00 L but less than 7.00 L, reservation is required with education on subsidized rates and reservation for Job.
- Annual family income more than 7.00 L; No reservation is required.

The problem about reservations is that in most of the cases, they are "grabbed" by the creme-dela-creme among the BC group. The son of a "Principal Secretary" to the Government, the daughter of the CMD of a PSU, all want to apply via the reservation quota. This blocks the requisite flow of reservations to the lower strata where it is really required. In Governmental Promotions also, foe each and every promotion, at each and every stage, these chaps get 10% marks extra added. This pushes them up high. We have to give reservations, but also ensure that each family(?)/person cannot use the reservation card more than 2-3 times (I feel that it should be only once) in his life-time. Let this be clearly recorded in his BC card, let it be a feature say in Aadhaar. If the creme stop grabbing all the reservations, it will flow down. It is shameful that more than 60 years after independance, the lot of these people has not improved much. It is because they are being robbed by their own kind
