Its an interesting debate..... But i certainly believe that it is only for the money a person works and nobody can deny this fact. In times of recession, organizations go ahead and decrease the salaries, staff count is decreased so on and so forth. Now do you think the organization is loyal towards the employees? Certainly NOT. So, the focus should be enjoy your work and get paid for it. If you are not getting paid for the work and effort you put in, then there is no point sticking with the organization because at the end of the day you need money to pay for your expenses.

The employee will have a better idea how the company has been with its employees in the past. Did it share its growth with its employees readily in terms of a good pay raise, how was it towards addressing employees' genuine problems, how were the employees treated in general and is it really a situation in which company is compelled to cut or hold salaries.......because here in India many companies have exploited the pretext of recession to lay-off and cut salaries. Now they are doing good, new customers are added, already slim employee strength (due to lay-off) now has to bear the extra work load but still these companies dont seem to revise salaries and some even at times delay payments. In such a scenario, the employee should decide considering above factors as well as his own needs regarding loan payments and other monthly expenditure whether he can afford to have a delayed payment. Dont be too good with companies who dont deserve your goodness...)

Loyalty toward an organization is important. Any organization goes through ups and downs on account of the varied business cycle. If due to the economic crisis, salaries are delayed for a few months, we should also be able to adjust to this scenario. However, if this practice continues, then there may be other factors at work and it may not be appropriate for the individual and he may also not be able to sustain himself on account of these issues....

Working with delayed salary payment for 2-3 months is an extreme test of organizational loyalty. At the minimum, the organization should be paying salaries regularly and this should be its first priority in times of financial crises. However, it has to be seen in the proper context. If the employees have had a pleasant working experience in the past and they are convinced that the delay in salary payment is genuine then they can afford to wait especially if they too do not have an option elsewhere.

It depends on the standard of the company which you are working. We should be loyal to the company when there is a real financial crisis and if we feel that company is capable to overcome the crisis and we would get a fair deal in terms of salary. That also upto a limit till we can survive without salary. I feel it is very difficult if we are out of India especially in Middle east to live without salary for months. So better to analyse the situation and to take a good decision depending upon the situation based on company's reputation, our own problems to survive

This type on practice is OK when there is real financial problem with an organization but what I observed is that it becomes tradition and continue even after the crisis Like of "tiger tested blood once" When in crisis organization don't think twice before firing employee so why employee think of org when he gets the better opportunity.

In times of difficulty, if the company can be transparent enough to its employees in case of failure to even pay fixed salaries its ok to give some buffer time, otherwise if not paid one should not work.

It depend from the so named "employer-employee implict contract", in my opinion. In the past, it was clear that the fidelization between employeer-employee was part of this contract. As a consequence, the enterprise voluntered to take some large obligation vs the employee, with particular regard for job security (long term labor relation assurance). Where and when this is changing (and this is happening more and more, no matter the kind of company or region), it's rationale a similar reciprocity by the employee. In the specific, as the horizon of our foreseeble labor relation is contingent to the market situation and/or to the results of the project I'm working for, if you are not paying me (and labor market shows a good dynamics), I've to search for my own way elsewhere...

Yes, I agree, but ofcourse if it becomes a practice. However, being in the mid level management in India, we are lucky to understan the actual reasons behind why ca company is not paying its employees on time. This allows us to conclude if the company is wrong or right in its doings. However, we are all helpless when or if we ever worked with companies like the former Satyam. Many of the top management too didnt know what was happening. At this juncture there is not much a staff can do except fight the rugged battle in the court of law. Ultimately it all depends on the management as to why they are delaying salaries or promotions or hike, maybe for their own personal benefit or perhaps the companies coffers are really really empty. If this is the case, its time to hunt for another job.

Trust and Maturity are two essential components in business. The fact that a company is undergoing hard times is not really a secret to the employee. And in a situation as cited there is no harm is continuing to perform as always for the given period.

Success of any organisation largely depneds on loyalty of its employess , perticulary during recession period . Employee must think to pay back to his/her organisation during this bad time and perform better and better .

I support the idea of supporting the organization. How many of you remember Amir Khan as an entrepreneur of small company in the movie 'Hum a rahi pyaar ke'? Remember him asking his workers to work without pay for an order. If you don't support your organization in bad times, how do you expect them to help you in your bad times. One should see, if one can do it for the organization. If not, its understood as well.

Till U r with the organisation ... U r loyal. Question : before U leave, what may be ur course of action ? -- Is the problem jenuine ? Had not the Company make provisions is golden days to protect employees interest in bad days ? -- Has the Company 'sifoned' capital in some other field ? -- Is the Executives equally shareing the problem and taken measure for ostracity at their end also ? If all those answers are yes, ask the company at least to pay the 'minimum' regularly and earmark the rest for future payments with resonable interest and loyalty bonus . Otherwise ... .... .... choice is urs.

The Loyalty to the institution is essential that too in times of turmoil. Every one should have the ethical value to exhibit their loyalty to the Institution in times of turmoil... The basic principle is that the Institution ought not be punished for the mistakes of Individuals and protecting the institution in times of turmoil is tantamount to " small drops of water saved maketh the ocean"... It not only facilitates the survival of the institution , but collectively should you look at protect the economy of the country. ( The run away & crook promoters are however not covered under the orbit)
