'Just Essential Enough Parts ' ... Thats what jeep stands for .. low cost , low maintainence , a strong 20 lit engine and can take a lot ... just give it that basic raw look ... complete with gerricans and spades with the front tow chains and off-road tyres ... the engine should have that deep throbbing sound rather than the usual scattered sound of a diesel engine ... make it stand out and have a signature of its own rather than be a downsized suv... There will definitely be a big market for it ... both domestic and exports ...

Thanks Natteraja for referral. I think it will sell. A retro look Green Jeep at a price of lac's will be acceptable in Indian Markets. Well friends we always forget tha we are a country of 1.2 billion people. So every thing will sell. Some with large volumes and some with smaller volumes.

I think Ramesh is on the right track. These fuel guzzlers - specially subsidised diesel - should have a much higher tax rate. Also, they should be made to pay the full rate for the diesel which currently carries a subsidy of around 6/- per litre

Jeeps are a popular mode of transport for many people. Hence, the re-launch from the Mahindra stable, which is having a good brand name in the market will be a win-win proposition for Mahindra. The market will again go for these jeeps and it also leads to further product diversification for Mahindra. Thanks for the referral, Natteraja....

Yes, This is a welcome step for all manly people who love this kind of vehicle. I would prefer to go for the jeep in future if I ever get a chance to own an extra vehicle... Robust and smart vehicle like Enfield "Bullet" in 2 wheeler segment. Mahindra will get huge response like Scorpio and other models.

This product is not going to be a big seller but this product will help Mahindra in its branding exercise ie., to continue the market perception as a rugged full time SUV. The Vehicle is not almost a scoprio Below the body hence refinement level would be much better than the Mahindra Classic. @ Mridula , 1.Army green is not meant to painted on Civilian vehicles. 2.This Vehicle more than its market its to strengthen the brand image of Mahindra which has been effected with too many urban SUV launches. This would kill its USP of its brand. In terms of sale , its going to be tough more Mahindra to better Bolero which is doing better an couple of B-Segment-ers ! Thats one commendable achievement for a UV. Never thought bolero would cross the monthly sales figure of 7000.

Why not, many automobile enthusiasts will be looking for jeeps which comes in army green colour, its the retro look which it gives attracts many people, and infact M&M were selling this vehicle from past 2 years in South africa for 9-10 lac price range...and this I got to know by doing some research....It is the need for a retro-styled product that has forced M&M to launch the product in Indian markets, This is a niche, retro-styled product and there will be a lot of young buyers and Jeep fans for such a vehicle.

Not much, except a few who in any case keep changing or acquiring for the sake of change. Mahindra2, somehow does not appear giving sufficient time to a platform. Take the case of Bolero. Lot of announcements followed by disappearing act. After-sales is another concern many mention.

They have launched but it’s for sure they will not make up in the market as they have predicted, because JEEP was in different era when very few automobile majors were there. But this is something different where you have to compete with world class and brand segment of automobile makers. Though Thar is very cheap compared to the competitors but the people who loves such cars never look after cost.
