Yes it is expected Kavita, Because, these Maoists especially the top rung leaders r always look for the tacit support from these so called rational thinkers & community, who can glorify the Maoists & their action thereby ensure that the tribals & poor will always kept under their control & get public sympathy by the urban community, thereby putting the pressure on State to abandon tuff action. No doubt the State is responsible & the main cause for this social injustice. But the Maoists also doing the same thing by going against people & state. The unfortunate thing is these Utopian thinkers & sympathizers shld think the consequences in present context before it is too-late as the modus operandi, of the Maoists r using to procure their arms & ammunition is horrible. If State & Maoists supporters neglect further, the same people create havoc among the people and there by destroying the Democratic System. It is right time to force these guys to come to the main stream & establish themselves and claim the respect & confidence of the people & get the support from all the section of the society. SN Rao

Not really shocking - unfortunaely some of our intellectuals always supported violence and terrorism in the name of protecting people in comparativey under-developed areas of the country and these days its not very difficult to determine who they are. Socondly naxalite movement could be a lucrative businessto many while this involves a good amount of money (the affected areas are actually rich in mineral and forest reserve which is already pointed out by several media reports.

Well, Roy and Pathkar have been openly supporting the violence of the Maoists.

Yup,I do agree with this, there was no need of an uprising of this scale if people were happy. And this, this one is a complete blame game and an effort trying to get a media hype. Let's see, what can the government do to take care of this.

This was bound to happen. From the past 60 years, no government has ever taken any practical approach to upbring the conditions of Tribal people. Because of this maoism evolved. And now these social activists are taking care of them. If, still in future no government takes care of them, more and more social activists will do like this.

Actual fact of depose of the arrested persons are not known. We have seen in case of Chatradhar Mahato arrest, police arrested him in disguise of TV reporters, but in FIR, as stated, he was arrested while cross firing between Maoist and Joint Action Force.

WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT IS TO FIND A PERMANENT SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM AND NOT IN TRYING TO DIVERT THE ISSUE OR FIND A SCAPE GOAT FOR NOT SOLVING THE PROBLEM.

Hello Asoke Kusari, Maoist attack on innocent and other are not acceptable. They should come for discussion with Government Bodies and to sort out their issue. Their linked with top activists may not be true. We should wait and see. No doubt Government should improve the tribal people's standard of living and give proper education to them. By doing this we can solve the problem. Hope for the best. K Rajagopalan.

This is nothing but the knee-jerk reaction of Indian whose human rights violations in the name of anti-Maoists operation have earned international notoriety. It has become the practice to brand anyone who is talking about poverty and exploitation as Naxals or extremists. It's the same old US strategy: if you are not with us, you are against us. The Indian media rarely talk about the atrocities of government's goons called Salwa Judum and the rape and torture of CRPF personnel. Our stenographer journalists only report what the government and security agencies say about `Naxal attacks', not the atrocities of the security forces. Read this before blindly believing what the government is churning out:http://www.thehindu.com/news/national/article512651.ece

Arundhati and Medha might be supporting the cause of Naxalasim but not the violence. Read NCERT text book of class 8 and you too will start thinking soft about the tribals. Naxalism may be wrong but what happened with tribals is not right.

But, ironically almost every single Moaist leader is not from Tribal belts, but those from the wealthy families of the plains who got brian-washed during their studies or early careers have been taking up arms and in the name of protecting the rights of the Tribals also are massacaring them after branding them as police informerers.

Knowing someone or having met someone somewhere does not neccessary mean that one is "linked" with them.. there is little to support the fact that arundhati / medha patkar et al will condone violence of this kind.. so i hope that the statement is just a statement with little truth in it
