Its all about a number of case studies. Study as many case studies as possible covering all the verticals. Take insights and move ahead. Real time situations are obviously different from what you have imbibed from class rooms and books, apply your common sense to come out of the situation in flying colours!

Books and Practial both are necessary. Book knowledge is for concept and that concept you have to implement in practical way.So both are important but practical knowledge must requ. otherwise you cant stay in corporate.

MBA's need both bookish and practical knowledge. But compared to books, practical will give more knowledge and easy to learn and understand.

In any of the field you can never say that by reading a book you can learn anything. Everything you learn is by experience. Even when you do your MBA all you learn is a lot of concepts, which could be strengthened only by experience.
