The media survives because of the ads. if there are no ads no media houses. It leads to consolidation and only the strong players will be able to survive.

Of course the media will be affected, if it hasn't been already. TV channels are already on a strike, that too for more than a week. The cost of producing a newspaper, magazine or TV show will definitely go up due to the recession.

The media industry does not operate in isolation. When manufacturing, services, telecom and other industries are being affected, how can the media industry not be affected?

Yes, I think it will be effected. As we all know that there are many brands which are globalized and these globalized brands will be effected by this meltdown and so will be the media industry.

On the contrary, popular brands will retain their campaigns, midsized brands will opt for cheaper media (maybe) giving volume sales to the media in selection and generally there would be more spate of ground activity that would easily make a brand catch eyeballs and ensure TA reach!! I dont foresee a slowdown.

I agree that media survives on advertising, but to sustain in this era the brands will opt for more advertising n promotions, thus leading to a scope for it too.

Just to add on what my friend said above, in this scenario there is more need to new talent to increase the sale that is the reason there will be more recrutmnet in this sector.

I do agree that there has been a lot of impact on every industry of this meltdown  but I think that this industry will not be effected, we can see from the present scenario that there are many advertising industries that are hiring students from various colleges.
