Yes i agree with Pooja that mentoring juniors is good. In my openion it is good at both side one is juniors and other side is senior people. When seniors guid their junior, they can get many new things in his work which things they dont learn by their study and etc ok. And in case of junior, it is helpfull and benificial for them, every body know how......

You are right. It will develop the skill and also teamwork habit, therefore it is always good for the organization. But definitely it may not be favorable to the mentor always (depends on the company policies and the person who has been mentored. But I still recommends the mentoring.

" its good , most important role of senior level person to mentor the down line...! what if u don't want to do ? ur super bosses thinks ur not working towards strengthening ,encouraging young talents...Good , what abt our positions, lets not forget its world of highly competitive, and some times we come across jungles rule..Survival of fittest. or Sir , Adbul Kalam statement fall in love with ur work, not to company...Because u never know when ur company stop loving you" SO Whats that we do, tatics where the do's ,dont's... I Think mentor the junior , it will help. mentor him so that he becomes loyal, emotional , motivated to follow ur orders,"Make a strongest army to win the toughest battle,But dont forget , you should be the king of army" LOVE IT, HATE IT.... U KNOW THE TRUTH...

Hey!!! Come on ........you must be kidding putting this stupid question for debates. Ask yourself ..who mentored you..........Your junior???? at work your son or your father/G.parents/g.uncles at home???? Your younger batch or the teachers at school???? Lets not waste time discussing naive and archaic issues when this country needs us to put our heads together PAN INDIA to reflect on a solutions to the kashmir problem. The maoists plight and their fight....The manipuri's and North east migrants problem....The Mumbai for mumbaikers issue....The tribal eco balancing with development and host of others. Get real guys and think of some real topics to file your minds both politically, historicall, and economically OR see this country De-Generate Geo-politically. Lets discuss Rahul Gandhis venture and New found love for Tribals.......Is it Real??? OR Is it politically driven for all states where congress does not rule. Why not take up the ILLEGAL MINING IN ANDHRA WITH 3 RULING CONGRESS MINISTERS OWNING THE MINES. Lets talk REAL thru this podium and site and not mundane and redundant. sanjay singhal

It's good as it reduces certain work responsibilities from the seniors shoulders.

Mentoring juniors is good when you know your limitations. You should be possessing the knowledge to mentor them. Not just start mentoring as you are in a higher position. It is like our elder telling us about their experience to show us right path. If it goes beyond that then we are at loss.

I also support Poojas comments, mentoring juniors is good as long as there is demarkation of what to reveal or not to.

In contemporary business scenario mentoring someone is rather an informal affair and has psychological and emotional elements dominantly influencing chemistry between the two. Mentors are professionals with high level of maturity. They also have that special instinct which helps them find potential individuals having that special stuff in them. Mentor’s find may be one just by chance, or mentoring may knowingly or even unknowingly begin, but in all the cases some ingredients are common – and they are high degree of inclination, mutual respect, and trust. A mentor is like the Guru of the ancient times who chose or accepted one or two as his disciple and lived for them. He devoted his life in preaching and teaching his proficiency. In their lives and even after their deaths, their names were mentioned in high esteem. They were not simply teachers or trainers who worked for earning wages. They accepted their disciples as their own sons and shouldered their responsibility and fulfilled all their needs. Indian tradition can boast of many such mentors who ultimately became legendary. In principle mentoring is entirely different from counseling. Counseling, in short means realization of potential of a person or group who in certain circumstances or under some kind of influence may not achieve or produce desired productivity level. S/he may not have enough willingness to perform and for some unknown reason may show unresponsiveness to the endeavors of his Managers and Trainers. The counselor has to strategize his line of actions to help her/him come out of the shell s/he is in. This is a herculean task. The HR must work consistently. The exercise certainly is time consuming and may lead to fatigue. It may be at times boring. So, one must be mentally prepared for the investment which is usually very high.

I can partiality agree with Pooja. The combination of seniors and juniors can bring better results at work. Mentoring if required can be discussed at regular meetings as per company law or report at daily debriefing . Unnecessary interference by each other, other than the guidelines by the company , may produce negative results.
