This news that Hussain is painting Indian goddesses nude is an old one. To tell you all honestly, when I thought of a nude painting of a female - I have seen many in museums across India - I really believed that Hussain is painting an Indian goddess nude where no vulgarity is seen but artistic free expression is in ample evidence. I assumed that it would be in that league. After I made the above post in toostep, I clicked on the link provided in this platform where most of Hussain's nude paintings are shown. I did not find artistic nudity. I also felt that the paintings were in bad taste. If I have to buy a hussain and display it in my place, I would refuse to do so. I have been thinking on my above post. I have made two points : 1. Muslim gods and goddesses (they oppose idol worship) or pictures of muslim saints and deity do not offer variety and are not artistically challenging for a nude painting 2. If a piece of art does not enhance the place it is displayed in, it will not sell as a pride possession. I think an Indian will not feel very free to buy this painting. Having said this, I will stick to my post that if you don't like a painting, don't buy it. But do not harass the artist and make him run away. I have received a thumbs down for my above post from Kiran Nayar. I think he is right in giving me a thumbs down. I thank him for his frankness.

MF Hussain is a great painter. He is an asset to India. By losing him, we have lost a great painter whose loss is very tough to fulfil. India should do something to get this great painter back and provide him adequate security from religious fanatics.

Nudity in Hindu Temples, Artist's Freedom of Expression, and all is no diffence to him. Will MFH dare to paint nude pics. of Idols of the Religion that is prevalant in Qutar. If he does, his hands would be cut-off there? Then why this hypocricy on someone who never bothered to appear before Indian Courts to explain his stand on his ‘Freedom of Expression’, and when he was made to realise that his ‘Freedom of Expression’ ends where that of others start, he simpy vanished into foreign countries.

It’s not about religion...its about how much is too much. MF Can do any kind of painting and keep it in his house. When he paints to sell them with a commercial motive, then he must respect sentiments of others in the society. If I come onto this forum and use abusive language then everyone will ask me to shut up...because it’s not my home and you guys are not my personal friends. Simple rule is no one can stop you from painting damn thing…....but when you want to display your art to the Public galleries be responsible.

Mr.Sham Sunder, in the name of Art, if someone paints a nude picture of mother, won't the son feel offended? Then how you expect us to stay mime when someone paints a nude pics of our deity? The temple architechture you are talking about has nothing to do with any God or Godesses. Go and see them, they are carvings of royal dancers whose pics were carved to stop the increasing number of people becoming hermitage in those days. Please read History.

As Mr.M F Hussain is in Qatar nowaday , it is better he stop painting . If he starts painting nude pictures of the King & queen there , he may face hell lot of problems than while he was painting in India. As Democracy may not be exercised there !!! Adding on , Indian Government has more than enough to deal with , so it may be rubbish to go to MF Hussian & ask him to return back.

a person is born nude and our mothers are the first photographers .. our body is all hug saag ....i.e eat saag and emit hagg... heighten perception rather than judging hussains perception . as gilbert preur says on TOOSTEP :: always try to understand and seldom judge

No need. This man has already created a lot of problems in India through his paintings. He has hurted the sentiments of millions of Hindu people in India. Because of him, India faced a violent reaction 2 years ago. If he still comes back, there, again is another possibility of violent protest against him. We didn't tell him to leave his "Indianness". If he willingly wants to leave India, we needn't beg him to come back.Let him be happy where he is now.
