Microsoft has gone the MLM way ( Multi Level MArketing ) to promote its new WINDOWS 7. The person needs to enrol on a website & then a common party is organised wherein he promotes the product. Depending upon how much he is able to sell.. he gets either a computer or other as benefit. Will this work out when already many other channels are present to deliver the product to to the customer.

Yes it will work whats wrong with it, it will just give more visibility of the product than earlier and the new approach also ensures that people see for real what the product is like from Microsoft before the official launch happening and the product looks great, i am having Windows 7 the release candidate on my PC and it works fine, way much better than Vista, everything just flows here, a good product and a great marketing technique it really works fine in west but don't know how it will fare in India, as MLM concept hasn't flourished the way it has in west. It will be great to know others view on this new and innovative way of marketing for a software giant like Microsoft. Even I have also created a topic on the same lines...

This will be a painstaking process wherein Microsoft needs to start from square 1 & then see where this goes. Microsoft has set up strong distribution channels upon many years. This new methodology might be aiming to eliminiate this in future.

yes. i would buy a software or a mobile phone ,etc on recommendation of a friend or collegue who uses it himself rather than a shopkeeper who recommends without using the same.

and since i get to have a test run of the software on my friends computer it makes my decision easier , so why not reward my friend for the efforts.

Good idea! Since we all know that piracy is a big time challange for software companies. This will improve the reach of Microsoft since majority of the concepts and services are best promoted thru recommendations by friends and collegues.

I do take advice from my collegues and friends on mobile phones , softwares ,games, laptops , music systems before making a decision.

so why should my collegue or friend not get rewarded for the recommendation and demo of the product ??? since i would rather trust him than a shopkeeper who has not used the product ...

software being sold as an MLM concept is an interesting idea. But a giant like microsoft trying to sell their wares through mlm will end up creating a mess.  Its like selling cars through mlm without the support system.

In this case, the customer has to promote the product and he will be awarded accordingly. But, in the market, already many other channels are present to deliver the product to to the customer then why would customer opt for this process of promotion? As Mr. Santosh has said, in this process, Microsoft needs to start from square 1 & then see where this goes. This new methodology might be aiming to eliminate this in future.

Many other brands have chipped in & gone ahead to further segment the market. e.g. more battery life, speaker phone, 3 SIM cards .. & all these at very competitive price. Bigger players like samsung, videocon etc have also entered with economicla phones.
