Microsoft is providing no-cost access to Microsoft designer and development tools for verified students around the world, to support and advance their learning and skills through technical design, technology, math, science and engineering activities. Initially launched in 2008, this programme has officially launched itself in India in November 2008, and the current vision is to target even school students. It is estimated that a whopping 35 million students will be able to access these software titles free of charge through this programme. Currently Dream Spark is functional in 11 countries including India, the other being United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Finland, Spain and China.
Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad, has entered into an agreement with Microsoft India under this initiative; over 300,000 students from 380 affiliated engineering colleges in the State will have access to this programme.

The programme is offering:-

* Expression Studio 3
* Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition
* Visual Studio 2008 Professional Edition
* SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition
* Plus a whole lot more.

Definately it will help.. It seems to be a Microsoft strategy to create interests in mind of youngsters to get a majority on it's side.. !! Microsoft has no doubt a good competitor for market, but we never know if they can be taken over by Google or some other giant.!

The softwares you have mentioned are well collated to execute a career in MS technologies..! so it will definately work.. Even I need it for free!!

Students should learn the techniques, algorithms and create their own tools and libraries and not get trained on branded products and packages. Alternative technologies like open source will not reach students as there is no one to take  these free tools to the student community.

yes definately it will help students in learning new tools.this is helpfull because in student life evryone is not that much capable so that he/she can buy each and every software.this will help to students in knowing wheather the software is user friendly or not and its satisfying their needs or not.

This is what, i am about to say...

Its just a promotional strategy. Like I am in a healthcare software company. Our softwares are installed free of cost in all the medical colleges. After graduating, those doctors will stick only to those softwares for their practicing.

Yes, it is a major promotional strategy of Microsoft. As, during the college time Students will get addicted or use-to of their software. And then due to the comfort level, those students now professionals would require same softwares in their Companies.

This is what Microsoft is Aiming at.

I agree with you sumitra and Im sure it will get more fame to the Microsoft, but it has to take the right step in right time, I mean it has to approach the top colleges in top cities but not every where to publish by himself. Like JNTU in Hyderabad is the best one to get the 100% result.

I think yes. This step will increase microsoft's popularity among the students and the youths and since majority of India's population is youth, other software will lose a big amount of their market share to Microsoft...
