Yes, no doubt MNREGS of providing 100days employment to poor is good for uplifting the standard of life. Still there is lot of scope to improve its implementation. However Governments are seriously working to improve its execution and ensure more befits to poor. here, role of Not for Profit Organisation is to keep on pushing Governments fro better governance.

It is a good step , creation of employment when workers r not having work to do. Even at a time ther is employment /work this NREGA is being implemented. Resulting in shortage of workers for construction as well as agriculture. Govt should examine places where it can be more useful and where workers suffer from lack of work.

Whether, the system works efficiently or not , with respect to labour under-utilized or over-utilized . But, one thing is clear that some money reaches the labours. Gradual awakening & prunning up a bit of the structure thro' which it is administered will give yield in the long run. At grass root level with available percentage of illiteracy & unawareness, cause this short-coming.Media can boost up this issues in a better way so that , labours start using it fruitfully.

yes it is success even if a single family has gained from the programme.yes the cost is high & money might be misused by some but it is wasted in many programmes run by government so better even if some money is utilized for the betterment of poor atleast it will feed them and keep them away from bad things.Above all it will give them satisfaction of earning money with their own hard work.

i think its not a success at this point of time. but things will mature over the period of time. so it is a good initiative, which can help a lot if implemented properly.

Thanks for the referral Mr Sachin Any new idea needs time, the govt has introduced some new and good schemes they need time to come into shape. I agree that a lot of things get washed up due to the corruption , but I feel that efforts are being taken by the govt to implement new ideas and we should encourage it,

No Sachin I dont agree with you on this. To start a project there will be loopwholes and those should be plugged. I have personally seen in many parts of the country the people's faces with a hidden smile. Since they are now in a position to eat two square mills a day. India is a corrupt country but it will take time to eradicate the same from our socity as a whole.

We have a very elaborate bureaucracy which is weighing heavily on government projects. NREGA, like other such social projects, is a well planned move. The bureaucravy and power lords of locality are to be blamed for its failure, not the programme.

MNREGA is one of the sucessful priorities taken up by govt. of india for guaranteed employment for 100 days job in a year. The benificiary can achieve 100% through smart card or by use of biometric card.I think once the unique identity card number is given the implementation of mnrega will be more sucessful.

A unique system of Govt. of India of employment for the all majority of the village community.
A huge sum of money is released from the centre to the districts for payment of the jobs.
A unique way for the development of the village community say: help in irrigation, plantation and self reliance.

Instead of commenting from our air-conditioned rooms, let us go to a village and study the situation. I had been to a place in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh, at least thrice in the last one year, which predominantly consists of tribals and scheduled caste communities. The parents look forward to their son/daughter attaining the age of 18, so that he can be sent as a agricultural labourer. Another earning member is added to the house ! All my efforts to bring three/four persons to Hyderabad by promising them roti, kapada aur makaan and quality education proved to be futile. Parents are unwilling to send them because the family loses 100 days income. Over a period of time, India will become a country of labourers and illiterates while the rich and affluent will continue to rule India. Instead of spending crores of rupees on this scheme, we must make education free and compulsory upto 10th standard. Afterwards, it can become free or subsidized with the help of Corporates. If we start the policy in a 2-year period, India will become a Rama Rajya at least after 50 years. I wish somebody will have a look at the other side of this coin.

ayan it is true. NREGA is one of the scheme where politicians can knockoff the funds behind this scheme with fake works. If we watch closely the indian budgetary system, atleast 20% of the GDP is allotted for this types of schemes where their is lot of scope for stealing the funds with out accountability since it is difficult to audit the expenditure under these schemes. Ayan what you say if media expose the indian budgetary system in subtle and design a parallel idle budgetary system for a Financial year and draw a comparison vis-a-vis Govt. budget submitted by the pranab mukherjee the loops are highlighted & system will be exposed to some extent to the public.

Although it is not a success at the moment but the strict vigilance & implementation can sustantially improve the rural- urban divide...and especially the urban migration can be controlled...

I agree with you Ayan. But according to me the Govt of India and Mr Manmohan Singh in perticular is at least looking for the benifit of the poor of this vast country wher one person earns Rs 20/- per day. To start with there will be loopholes but one can always plug them. I will go upto saying the Sonia Gandhi, Pranab Mukherjee are also equally responsible for the upliftment of the poor in our country.

It is not easy to say, because in India, there are many schemes launched by Govt. time to time. But all we know about the result. If the last performance is the criteria to answer the question then i have doubt to say yes. Even i heard from many villages where Food are coming for poor people under Food schemes run by center/state Govt. But i am sorry to say that food comes in the places but only in the form of papers and bills.....No food program run in reality. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR IT? I think We are responsible. And i am still not able to find out the solution. So i don't want to comment more on the topic.

i completely agree with Ayan..given the kind of corruption scenario India has, its very difficult to get the money to the right and deserving hands..unless the whole hierarchy and the people working and involved in NREGA are judged and reviewed, we are going to lose more money than before which will severely affect the economy of the country without any result...100 days of work is fine but the people should be educated first so that they can rightly demand their dues, fight and the bring the matter to the top officials if they are not given what they deserve...so education is the saviour more than all..

This and all other welfare schemes are used by central/state/local governments to siphon off the funds. In many villages across India, everyone registered and living have been bogusly accounted for having working under various schemes and the cash disbursed. The entire money is looted year after year. Rather government should create lasting assets like schools, colleges, hospitals in every village. Government run hospitals need much to be improved in terms of quantity and quality.
