This service really came as very much helpful for the customers who were pissed off and were tired of these low value services and exploitation of these service providers but still adhered to that network just because of the fear of losing the number if they change the service provider. Now with the help of this service being introduced they can easily change their service providers without loosing their number. The cost of changing operator is kept low and also this process doesn't take much time. So I will suppost this service in context of India.

Rightly said. It is the time for us to enjoy the privileges of competition. Though i havent gone through the various schemes of the different players, my friends tell me that all the players offer the same thing in different disguises. So it becomes an issue of voice clarity and quality of service which would be the main differentiators in the absence of good schemes.

Too many times, we make a decision and buy something. After getting that, we see that our decision could have been different. This scheme will help handle these cases. One another benefit is that after we become the member of a particular service provider, we find that the network has become clogged due to the connections getting added all the time. If this happens, the unhappy customer can switch over to another service provider

Yes.It will benefit. May be on the following score , it is much prefered. - Sim is corrupted or even missed, same number can be recovered.
- Areas where there is no coverage of the present service provider but, alternate service provider has, then it is preferable.
- Mobile phone is stolen, then it can be replaced.
- Pricing of schemes are attractive, then preference goes.
- Customer is not satisfied with the present service provider , then he can switch over.
- Better facility such as video call, 3G etc offered by others, then he can change.

Mobile number portability is nice idea unless its used in proper way.In Hong Kong they have applied this system and success rate is 27%,but there most user are prepaid customers. In India most users are pre paid customers so they don't have any issue about billing but post paid customers are concerned about it.No provider is transparent here, they have hidden charges which we realizes only when we get our bill in hand.I am user of Vodafone who are well know for excess billing but their network is good.I can afford paying more money than losing a call.
