Bharti Airtel have devloped a new technology called Me-tize, Bharti’s latest intranet: the unassuming SMS, with the help of IBM where the mobile phone doubles up as a company intranet, facilitating a range of decisions: from helping employees access their salary details to top management approving project decisions. And this Me-tize works in the form of SMS alerts which can get immediate reply if something is really important. Earlier one was using emails for internal communication, but now with this new technology Me-tize it will help a lot with getting the access of people real time, as everybody these days carries mobile phones where ever they go. I would like to ask most of the professionals on the platform, will this Me-tize where the mobile phone doubles up as intranet, be the best mode of Internal communication? Share your views people.

I think this new technology will help a lot for  HR's especially as HR department is the most which carries out these internal communications, and even now one uses emails as the mode of internal communication, but at times it becomes difficult if the person is absent or if he is on a leave then contacting the person for office work and some immediate decisions regarding a project will be difficult and time will be lost on most of the times, so with this new technology Me-tize where mobile phone doubles up as an intranet, where internal communications can be sent through SMS alerts, and with smartphones on the rise one can even get more complex details of internal communication, than just salary details and project approvals, and the process will be much more faster and there will be no productivity loss and in a way it will push email to the corner in coming days, I think this will be the best mode of Internal communication.

If, by mobile phone, we mean PDA then possibly yes.

But I have voted NO because a mobile phone is in itself a less useful device for the general purposes of an intranet - namely the sharing of mass messages and ideas, managing the ongoing conversations and work processes, etc...

I agree ,at present ,use of mobile is only means to improve productivity. It is going to be single powerful tool, for all class of people up to at least next decade.

of such device can provide adequate data security then it will really put laptops to obselence .but protecting key information realted to company will be at  high risk.

This will probably be another turning point in an organization's internal communication system. While I agree with Gargi, I feel this willl be equally useful in any department, more so for the field managers of operations, sales, distribution.

Yes, this is a welcome note, I hope this new technology will help most of the companies to cut their internet charges. But at present, is  this new technology will support the present mobile instuments?. If not, company should provide the mobile instruments and this is again a big expenditure. Any how later on this new technology will be the best for intranet purpose.

It will surely help in delivering informations quick & people not coming to the office on 1 particular day, fr some reason, can also be accessed easily.

No, unless company starts sponsoring for PDA's for everyone!!Also the scope of interaction on laptops cannot be compared to cellphones & amount of data transfer would remain a big question in view of this technology cost.
