Mobile Search: Google Vs Yahoo

Since there are currently no official third-party figures on mobile search market share, it is hard to say which service leads. Yahoo had the first mover advantage with Yahoo's one Search but Google's internet brand is very hard to contend with. What do you think?

Mobile Searchers are in a different search cycle then regular searches – they’re looking for something in the here and now. The majority aren’t searching for Credit Cards or news on your latest widget – they need to know where there’s a cinema nearby, where the nearest bank is, and other useful information. Because of it’s medium, much of Mobile Search is centered around local search.

Google is the market leader in local search and Yahoo lags behind. Search is not about  anything other than quality of results. Remember 2000-2002 days when google overtook yahoo and others based on search quality. At that point of time Interenet search was not a mature market. Same is the case for mobile search today. Better results will win.

Yahoo is more mature and developed in terms of its strategy. They even are focusing on the monetization startegy in India. India is always a after thought for Google. Look at the complete lack of focus on Orkut (Facebook is eating aways its share). Yahoo with bing partnership will lead in this space.
