Yes it is a form of betting and rightly so it has been banned by the BCCI as the SMS game play6up was having a lot of pressure from all the sides...as Betting and cricket don't go hand in hand due to various incidents in the past....because it won't be a Gentleman's game after all...with all that betting happening...if money was not involved it would have been a Fun game...but with money involving, they pushed too far and i guess lalit modi is pushing the IPL success to create different things...i guess he needs to slow down or things will start to backfire against him....

Hi Friends, BCCI has decided to stop the game with immediate effect as India's Union Minister for Sports MS Gill won his battle against the IPL's controversial prediction based SMS game. As it was openly encouraging gambling and betting it was bound to get stopped.....& it's really wonderful to see so many people participating in this debate....... Thanks !!!

So are U Participating in Modi's Fun Game? The basic question is how does Modi achieve the screening on behalf of the players, of not participating in his so called attempt of fungames? Don't you think that the betting scene in which Cricket Stalwarts like Kapil dev, Manoj Prabhakar from India were charged for betting during the World Cup, and Match fixing, 1995. Where the common man had raised the question of morality and ethics about the players and the Game. Now the same common man is justifying the act by saying Fungame coz he is also involved to make money. Elimentary Watson (Modi)!

Modi- The Mind that Matters! He has turned the betting table into a gaming table, with logic and using modern technology. Let me put it this way, when ever money gets involved in transactions it loses its sanctity as a mere game. It becomes a trade. And cricket is no different. In fact there are sites which claim Cricket trade, as a most comprehensive cricket betting and trading system available containing betting exchange trading methods and strategies that will secure a guaranteed profit betting on all forms of cricket on the betting exchanges, tax free. Arn’t we Indians always looking for logic? If we have a logical answer to all our queries then we have the attitude ‘ Chalta Hai yaar” And that is what Modi has done. Played on the “Chalta atiitude”, and has made betting legalised, supported by modern technology.

Betting or fun game, the money we pay is gone. They have worked out probability. In any case, their cost is Rs.10000 per over. @ Rs.4.5 per SMS, they need 2222 messages to break even. There will be a TDS component perhaps. For 20 overs it is four lacs per match which is peanuts. Added to that there is TRP rating issue and the ad money they get. Congrats Modi, it is a good try I used to wonder why people were not recognising the money that goes down the drain when they vote in reality shows? At least now people are becoming smarter.

Jayantji I agree with you. But According to me it is a betting. Because in those services (you are talking about) 4 options are there one has to chose one of them. But in this game no option is present, people will do it by guessing only. What will happen when a wicket will fall or a bowler is changed by the captain suddenly. And one has to send SMS after each and every over. And main thing How IPL is going to monitor?? So I think it is one type of betting.

I support that it is one type of betting. Because Guessing each and every ball of an over can not be a FUN game. Because u are doing it for money (if guess is correct one will get rs10,000 and wrong he will lose rs5/ sms). It is not mentioned that when one can send SMS. By this game, only IPL is going to earn money , nobody else. And betting in India is banned.

Wearing white shirts does not make anybody a gentleman and cricket is definitely NOT a gentlemans game!! Its a game where emotions flare high, abuses are caught openly while watching it on TV and now its the same game where 'Maa Ki' was interpreted as MONKEY et al!! Its a circus and created by some foolish moral politicos who have dampened the spirit of the game! Match fixing is not at a part of this! Why bring it up or even consciously compare?? 6Up was a good way of attracting more and mor eyeballs and the SP was also making good money out of it! Quite a unique idea! Now I wonder if BCCI was promised a chunk of the revenue what it would have done?

I am not participating simply because I dont think I have that knowledge of the game. However, I am not opposed to betting. I agree that there is no need to be taboo. When large number of people participate and large money is involved, regulatory mechanisms come into place. Look at the share market. There are people to manipulate. They do succeed for some time. But regulators catch up. It is only because in betting and gambling there is a clear divide, of those who gamble and those who do not, the regulation is not properly in place. For those who gamble, rational decisions are not possible since they are exploited. Those who do not, don't bother to bring in regulatory mechanism. Internet/SMS/TV is a good media. If this can bring about regulation and a proper opportunity arises for intelligent analysis, why not sports become a platform for betting?

Is betting wrong? Why is it such a taboo? Why is making money indiscreetly such a huge topic of discussion? And when the people involved are enjoying making money or losing it, why are others suliking? If you have the guts, intuition and the moolah... go ahead have fun multiplying it or dividing it!! IPL has indeed offered us a visula treat! Its pulsating, its unpredicatble and it has the excitement of 'anything can happen' thumping under every match! And if Modi has dreamt this baby and is nurturing it to be a 'cash cow' why are we so biased? I am proud that an 'Indian' thought of this and is making it one of the most successful games after the Premier League! Way to go!

Let us not try to draw comparision between Match Fixing scandal and this game of prediction. The reason is in the case of Match Fixing the players were allegedly given huge amount of money to under perform hence affecting the outcome of an event in an biased hence illegal manner, while in this case predicting the scores for each ball in an over in advance does not affect the outcome of the event as the participant in this game has got no bearing/control over the events. By trying to say that Lalit modi is promoting an event which will affect the outcome/results of matches is just going overboard and trying to kill the fun of reality game show.

Lalit Modi has done a smart act. It is true that it is only betting or lottery in which by putting 3 Rs. you earn 1 lakh. But modi has smartly disguised the betting into a fun game. It needs skills and guts to predict the 6 balls of the over.

I do agree it just another way of jamming the network by sending SMS till the time one has spent an fortune to get the prize money. Betting hold on don't we have a contest going on of guessing the next PM of India and the winner stands to win an fabulous car besides that why do we tend to see betting in negative light unless and untill it induces/influences directly or indirectly the outcome of an event in an unlawful and illegal manner. Let us also be honest enough in acepting the basic fact that it just natural human nature to try to predict the outcome of an event before the occurence of the event, let us not categorise all the astrologers betters??

You can call it betting if you are just guessing but here you are predicting based on the way flow of match. If there is a wicket fall you normally wont expect a 6 or a 4 immediately so, there could be some 0's and 1's and if you could atleast predict some of them correctly they say 4 or 5 or atleast total runs we can win so sounds good to me. But if you wanna call it betting its how you see it.

I think you have made no mistake in asking all these questions but you would have got all the answres if you have been to their website http://www.play6up.in/.
Regarding you question "What is the time limit with in which a person can send the SMS?" - just had a look at the FAQ's on their site and other content areas - by the looks of it we can only send SMS before the start of the over so once the over starts the prediction goes into the next over. And regarding -"if a wicket fall in the over (No body will write about wicket fall for his favourite team.) how to write and will they give any extra importance to this?? " - it says you can only enter runs so if a wicket falls and if it is not a run out consider that a 0 or if it is a runout then count the runs made and no extra allowed so always it will be one of the numbers from 0 to 9. And regarding network problems - I think we should start thinking optimistically. Anyway lets see how it goes.
