Veena I will definitely support you.In this age nothing is there called monopoly. There are alternatives in all fields. In my childhood any cold drinks were called cocacola by people as dunlop for tyre, bata for shoes as a result of monopoly. Now the situation has been changed over the years.

Monopolists distorts markets from functioning. The process is, they can work at reduced production which will prevent market from growing so also the economy. Refer Cournots theorem on Monopolies. He proved that Monopolies have the power to restrict production to raise profits.

Apple, is the only company who has made its base so strong in the market for ipods, Ipads. Any other company cannot even think to compete apple in this market. This monopolostic approach has not only has many companies to shut down, But has hampered the nations economy because of limited buyers and heavy cost for the product(less income tax-in quantity)... Please provide your views on the same for the survey for Monopoly market Post your request on the given link... http://on.fb.me/ljgq0b

Veena I agree with you except in case of crude there is still monopoly. I understand there is cartel but the demand and supply gap always remain in this product.

Veena, Public Utilities are monopolies. For welfare they raise prices as the demand moves up, due to Ramseys theorem on welfare.

First thing first …. In global economy, it is very rare to find absolute monopoly. There are always some alternatives available, which may not be as good but are functional and have some market share for sure.

Secondly, monopoly may be bad for consumers, as they may have to pay higher price, but this generates good profitability for the company and its share holders. Profitable company will almost always boost the economy thru one way or the other.

In conclusion – monopoly may not stop the economy, but will help it grow.
