Why not? The competition is not sleeping, its wide awake!!

But I would suggest a connect between on air media to ground activation! Air to hammer the brand and its attributes with positioning targetting the audiences by influencing them and then the ground activity to entice that same eyeball to TRY the brand / product at least once!

Marketing now has to look at an idea beyond just a concept leading to... It should SPUR buying! Thats the call for action today in the current times!

My opinion!

I somewhat agree with Mr.Wasim.When the economy is down its necessary that you need to spend your resources wisely. But I would also say that advertising is necessary even in these tough times because today there is a lot of competition among different companies and for them to make sure that the product remain in the minds of the consumers...they need to promote and advertise the product constantly.

As all of us know we are in the recceion phase. This is the time when companies are trying to cut their costs. So spending more on advertising will only result in the increase in the cost which will increase price of the product, which will eventually decrease demand in the market. SO BETTER TO SPEND WISELY ON ADVERTISING AS MARKET DEMNDS

If there is more amt. spent on advertising then it would lead to high price of the product and that would lead to hindrance in its sale.
