Practically it should be a promotion with good pay rise.. as incentives are like peanuts divided by 10 other people in your team which does not do justice to anyone at all. A good pay rise, promotion - means your efforts are recognized and motivates you to reach the next level of excellence!

Money cannot give you respect or differentiation. Even panwalas earn more than the corporate managers and money may not enable them to be looked upon by others. Therefore, it is the quality of worklife and freedom at work are the necessary attributes for any job. Only money is not the criteria to decide a particular job. If somebody is paying large sums of money to polish the boots of seniors, it is not a desirable job.

In public sector organizations like Banks, employees attend office for salary. In order to motivate them to give their best, some kind of differentiation is required, may be in the form of incentives - monetary or non-monetary. If the salary is below the market rate, then no amount of incentive will motivate them to excel in their work.

I think both are important, in the sense that every employee has an idea of what he "deserves" and anything above that does not have that incremental value. However once the money part is given, which is generally the case, without the element of learning, opportunity to work in areas which increase marketability of employee - professional growth, opportunity to challenge the intellect - exciting projects, variety in the day to day work and above all recognition for achievements, no employee can be motivated. The latter section is what I call incentives. All monetary incentives I'd classify under salary.

Salary and incentives mostly probably does not go hand in hand. But incentives do have a major impact on the monthly budget at the employee level. Statistically every second person who works from 10-10 to make it 1000 has a very basic but effective ideology behind working to earn incentives. Earning a good amount of incentives always takes care of your monthly expenses which includes traveling, shopping, food and entertainment ultimately having a maximum portion of your salary into savings. If the incentives structures are made more attractive then it can create wonders for the operational manager who wants to get the work done under service level agreement without compromising on quality. Incentives designed on monitory basis are always attractive but the one designed on gift vouchers or offers could loose the employees attention. Such incentives should be planned on the basis of the basic requirements of the generation and their trend. The above discussion concludes that salary would make the employee come to office but an effective incentive structure will make him/her work effectively.

incentive no doubt about it. Monetary incentive works only to a little extent, when the employees needs are not covered by his salary. Recognition for the good work in the form of elevation and promotion will spur the employee for greater effort

Once Salary becomes monthly right, a substantial and impartial Incentive is real motivator. Also rightly deserved recognition by the way of awards, promotion ete will be very significant.

Incentives, definitely! But, lets not look at incentives merely in monetary terms. Incentives could also mean recognition, career growth, responsibilities, lateral shifts, newer territories or areas of work, etc. These are what keep most employees motivated, though money does play an important role. The salary is remuneration for the work done, while the incentive is a reward for the work well done.

I'll go for incentives. Today the industry is incentive driven as mass market doesn't get high paid salaries. So, what keeps people going on is the lucrative incentives they get based on their performance.
