We all know that Slumdog Millionaire is awarded seven Oscars. And Rahman presenting India with Slumdog.

Are movies creating a brand for countries?

A R Rahman could be a brand but a single film cannot be a brand. It can be a vehicle for a brand to forward its communication! Icons like AB, SRK, Brad Pitt, David Beckham have reached pinnacles of success and hence are brands themselves and can be marketed anywhere. They will always find a gullible buyer as there is a huge emotional connect with these brands.

But a film cannot be a brand ever.

I can't agree with Sashi on his comment, yes all the movies which are really doing well in the foreign countries are branding India and its actors in a very good way, before there were only few celebrities from India who got a taste of Hollywood and now it has opened up its arms to Indian artistes in big way, where one is seeing more number of actors making their presence felt in Hollywood, and there is also more number of production houses from the west investing in Bollywood which is a very good sign..

They are and they had been. They show the talent which a country possess with itself. That gives the insight to which people can think and go to achieve their goal by being in their own society and following their norms.

I agree to chandan, One movie cannot brand a country. If the movie is nominated, it is definitely a pride for the country for there are many other factors which determine the brand of a country. Once in a blue moon nominatio cannot brand a country.

I do not think so. Because a single movie can not brand the Country. But as a whole industry it can brand. Because people will forget after some days which movie won the award and from which country it is from?

These awards only nominate people for their work and not for their country. People here represent themselves and not their country. People know Brad Pitt as a person and not the country it belong to.
