I agree sir that 'India lives in the villages'. But unfortunately after 6 decades we have increasingly begun to neglect the villages in our growth efforts. Take a reality check. I think FDI in retail will make a change as the job creation will increase towards the villages close to metros.

Ofcourse its good for India. we need to look at it in short term as well as long term basis. In short term it will provide jobs to many of the graduates passing out of the colleges, improves the standard of living of many middle class people. In long term it helps in phasing out middle men in the agri sector who eat out lion share of the money earned by farmers. They get to sell their produce directly to retailers. There may be some some negativity but can be overcome in the later days. Its better to fight negativity than stopping positive things which are ready to happen.

It depends on what our mission statement for India is, if we are planning to be a welfare free market economy a mixed economy is suitable in which case we need to create aggregate outcomes otherwise outcomes favorable only to a smaller section of the citizen will be lopsided.

multi-brand retail will help increase productivity and ensure an efficient foodgrain distribution network to tackle high food prices

Well I think as of now there is a wastage of 30% of the agriculture produce which will go down to nil and the big retailers will help in producing as per the standard norm and this will create a huge job potential in near future there are other various benefits yes there may be some pit falls but the benefits will exceeds the pit falls.

Multi brand is bad for India- India is predominantly a agricultral based country and follows a mixed economy. We are a country with diversities , hwever much we talk about IT development, we cannot overnight align ourselves to multibrand concept. this concept is fine if the entire parts of the contry is developed and it is more like acity based envrionment. we have many rural areas and promoting multi-brand is not healthy.

Well already it is working well. The point is from which perspective are you asking this question. If we take side of farmers and the agricultural industries then yes it is bad but from the ratailers point of view it is perfect.

gandhiji told INDIA lives in villages. We have already forgot those poor people. They are selling the lands to LAND MAFIA (as you assume for better prices.ok)To clear them from India there are better ways.corporate sector is ruling this country,so they may ban the agriculture easily. WHY they are choosing this long way? let them drown. We wwill celebrate it in our A/C rooms.

Oh My god... No one knows the seriousness... FDI will neither lower price for consumer nor hike the price for farmers.. After they achieve monopolistic nature by gaining market share.. they will start increasing the price.. People will go blind when they are used to MNC's But however our local Kirana shops and other small shops will give the consumers a lower price and reasonable price to farmers compared to MNC's after five years... Think... Read... It is war between 44 million small retailers in India and less than 1/2 % revenues of MNCS
