Well already it is working well. The point is from which perspective are you asking this question. If we take side of farmers and the agricultural industries then yes it is bad but from the ratailers point of view it is perfect.

Multi brand is bad for India- India is predominantly a agricultral based country and follows a mixed economy. We are a country with diversities , hwever much we talk about IT development, we cannot overnight align ourselves to multibrand concept. this concept is fine if the entire parts of the contry is developed and it is more like acity based envrionment. we have many rural areas and promoting multi-brand is not healthy.

My my perception, MultiBrand retailing is not suitable for India because India is an agro-based country, Many formers depends on their yield and its rate in the market. Multibrand retailing is a city oriented concept and it is not for rural areas. So it does'nt help in providing employment to rural people. Multibrand retailing encourages third party procurement, from this farmers last their rate at open market and they sustain greater loss. And also multibrand retailing hits Kirana shops, most of our people depends on  kirana shops business. So Multibrand retailing is not suitable for India.
