Tata is a name which links itself emotionally with Indian citizens, it stands for trust for Indians. When Sonia Gandhi can acquire a place in Indian Politics and can take decisions, Y can't a foreigner. How can we forget that if we Indians give due respect and permissions only then we would get the same.Indians do occupy respectable positions in foreign companies. And if there is someone deserving,I don't think this is a sufficient reason to restrict him, after all its India to enjoy the benefits and profits as Tata as a company would remain of Indian origin.

Yes it is true, the Tata group has always had very strong Indian roots. But times are changing and the global boundaries are slowly fading, making us all part of the big global village. Rather than debating over who is more suited-an Indian, Expat or a Foreigner , the driving question would be who fits the position the best. The group would be looking for a suitor who will relate to the company values and will take the company to newer heights.....

Hello Every one, As per my thinking,The Tata group is proprietary Indian domain and TATA started his business from India and Indian employee's contribution is maximum to reach TATA global level.Indian employees really working hard for TATA and Manpower is main tool for any Organisation and That manpower is available in India so. And the question of Culture is arise when talk about Global level Business so india culture is like such a way so foreign employee's find difficulties to adopt it so When think about global level see the culture of the country where we expand business.

I dont think Mr. Ratan will surely opt a non Indian as his successor. Rather he must have indicated that the same will fly back to India for the Corronation process. A forigner might have already spent enough time in India to go inline with our work culture, as it is a conservative though aggressive. It will be complicated for a complete forginer to run the show.

It is not a question of proprietary of a country. TATA Group has achieved its current status because of some very hard working and dedicated people within the organization. In my opinion it should not be so difficult to find an able Successor within the Tata Group. It is very important for a person to have known the culture of an organization before leading the same. I am sure an outsider would find it difficult to run the show. The outsider might be smart enough to acquire the required skill to drive the company forward, but it is a gamble which Tata's have to take. I will be really surprised if it is true that Tata Group failed to groomed an able successor in all these years and now they will have to rely on instinct and hopes.

The Tata group is indeed a proprietary Indian Domain. It is synonomous with Indianness. The sentiments and respect that most people have for the group is largely because of "it" being throughly Indian right from its inception. Even going global was a matter of immense pride to us as an all all Indian company had gone, proven a point to the world and established our standing on the global map. If an Expat or a Foreigner were to head the company, majority of Indians would lose that "attachment" they share with the Tata group. It would just dilute out the standing of the name and I feel in a couple of decades would just fade away!
