All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is soon going to start a cell for monitoring patient safety. The cell will maintain a database of medical negligence cases reported in the country. Will it bring in any changes in the cases of medical negligence in our country?

there is an immediate need for standard norms to be put forth for patient safety and a governing body to make sure that the hospitals are following these norm. especially where biomedical devices are concerned

I think that documentation is not considered the most important thing in the current health scenario in India. It is seen that in cases of medical negligence, there is no documentary proof available. If there is a record of every single patient and medicines prescribed to them and the documents related to surgury etc, we can bring down errors in medical treatment. With NIPS, hospitals will have to maintain a detailed medical record of the patients. Lets hope that this will bring down the case of medical negligence in our country.
