Natasha & Everyone, This is nice "debate" and I liked it and I would like to oppose Natasha & others who say "national security should be with governament a.k.a. common people) and I'm not opposing cause I wanted to but with suitable reasons given below: 1] Our Country can never become like pakistan, if national security is given to Army -or- forces since we are not providing them the power to governance but to protect the external & internal threats to our democractic machinery and systems in place (please read again how communists are taking advantage of our current situation), our forces so nationalistic that even in emergency period they never revolted I agree that does not guarantee the future, but this definetly shows the character of the army. 2] Normal people cannot take "sensitive, serious & strategic" national security measures who occupy the office of the government, since they have no knowledge about "geo-politics" and "threat management", the elected people can only try to save themselves for 5 years since the day they are elected, I hereby quote some very stupid blunders the politicians done in the past, without considering the long term consequences of it. a] Mr.Nehru, had gifted the land of Tibet to China on the pretext that China has more cultural similarities even though people of Tibet wanted to join India b] Nepal wanted to join India at the time of formation, he did not consider the plea (please check the national archives) c] Since 1955 to 1961 december our border forces updated Mr.Nehru that chinese are building roads on the sikkim & tibetan side, Mr.Nehru had no clue why would a neighbour build highways in hilly areas where there's no presence of their people d] Mr.Nehru, had gifted Cocoon Islands to Maynmar, stating it is too far to manage, excuse me when it comes to self or Nation every millimeter of land whether waste, barren, useless land you must protect it even though that is not yealding any value. Today, Maynmar has allowed Chinese listening posts to be erected on CoCoon Islands and they are a big threat to our forces stationed in Andaman & Nicobar Islands. e] Mrs.Indira Gandhi after winning the 1971 bangladesh war did not consider to prosecute the POW (Prisoner of war) for their atrocities in Bangaldesh. 3] Most Important, I feel, our politicians have no Idea of nuclear power & nuclear detterrance - if you want peace you must have power and period........there cannot be any questions in this. Instead they have signed backdoor NPT i.e. 123 Agreement, means, India would purchase, obsolete nuclear power generation technologies to provide us electricity at the cost of opening up all our nuclear facility clearly stating where we produce fissle material for our nuclear detterrance, what a shame. Just can someone search in the Google as India: fast breeder reactors ---- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, do a search, using thorium as a fissile material, if you feed it for the first 10 or 15 years with nuclear fuel (both are different, you need nuclear fuel to run your nuclear power generators), then it would keep on producing for the next 30-40 years (subject to verification) and India has abundant "THORIUM" reserves in the north east and that's the reason china wants to take north east (sikkim & manipal) into its fold and the US wants to control us for the next 50-60 years that means, whenever they want, they will stop supply of nuclear fuel for our power generation. I'm tired of giving more examples...........did I made points clear. Regards, Srikar(098670-48443/ 09342-8648-18)

HI Natasha i completely agree.Handling the power of the country in the hands of the army will more or less be detrimental to our nation as we can see from the example of pakistan where army rule of musharraf has only taken the country to the downhill. But i also think that it is not necessary that our nation will be in the same turmoil as pakistan because of army rule but still the government should only have authority to run the country.

Yes i do agree with natasha on this that the national security should be in the hands of the Government, as people's voice will be heard and let Government which is formed by people handle the national security and the country's interests
