efforts to combat increasing violence have been going on for decades - with debatable levels of success. notwithstanding, we may have a case where there is a need to ban private weapons in totality.

what do you all say ?

This is the 'rarest of the rare' cases, where I differ with Brigadier Saheb. I advocate permission of licensed weapons!!

dear murthy sir, we may disagree but i will always uphold everyones right to think differently. my reasons for banning are as follows. why does one need weapons - if it is to protect oneself then i say every individual needs firearms. i guess those who have reasons to fear are the ones who possess weapons. take away those and he may avoid doing things which cause him to need protection. then there are some who do it for "fun", or as a hobby - this is one hobby we can do without (sanjay dutt - case in point). then there are crimes (like some cases of road rage) which may not have been committed had the culprit not been equipped with arms at that point of time. smoking kills - and effects others too - yet i am one who is open to educating and banning in public places - not blanket bans. but i fail to see reason in not wanting to ban something which can only be used to harm others. i feel this could be a start point amongst a series of measures towards making our citizens feel safer. with regards

Yes, I second the proposal of the Brigadier sir here. Private ownership of weapons shall be prohibited for the effective maintenance of law and order.

our system should assure each one of us our security - without the need for owning weapons privately. if ownership of weapons is prohibited without exception - and has exemplary punishments for offenders, it may assist in the fight against violence.

thanks sharma sir, as always a well thought out and well expressed analysis. one doesn't go for a military option without clarity of the end state. unless we can define what we plan to achieve by an armed response, we may find ourselves floundering....
