There are certain words in our vocabulary which are apparently synonyms, but if you trace out examples of linguistic expression as more often used, then arguably there do exists a subtle line of differentiation. Two such words of expression are Need and Requirement that are sometimes used interchangeably without much problem in understanding the context. If we research thoroughly on verbal expressions, read between the lines and try to decipher the line of differentiation, then arguably some of the points emerge that can be explicable through some examples. It seems that” Need” is more of a tentative expression having more of a casual overtone in comparison to “Requirement” which is more explicit and concrete. When one talks of requirements in some of ones endeavors or projects one is more specific and expresses point to point perspicaciously, on other hand when one talks of ones needs it becomes macroscopic and generic with a wider scope for exploration. For instance, “I need to work hard in order to succeed” is a tentative expression where the person uttering this statement though may be convinced of importance of hard work in his goal to succeed is still surely short of a concrete plan or strategy. When a person start speaking of requirements, it seems that he is clearer about what exactly he requires to accomplish what he wants. Precisely speaking and arguably at times, requirements become second stage of needs, which are concrete, conditional, authoritative and more explicit. Needs are normally based on general perception. Requirements are normally based on proper analysis. What do you think?

Judging from more often used linguistic expressions it seems there exists subtle line of distinction between Need and Requirement.

The need is essential to support biological clock. The requirement is essential to support infrastructural development. The need will remain and is there for all living creatures but circumstantially ,infrastructural development has become need for humans.

In my experience NEED is instinctively felt where as REQUIREMENT is a consciously defined state.

Decidedly the two are different.

Need is an inborn instinct or desire that is considered to be fulfilled (may be that get fulfilled or remains unfulfilled), while requirement is prescribed by someone else for compliance or even by self to achieve certain aim or goals. Need is more often used as an economic term, while requirement is the term of generic and professional nature to be prescribed by anyone, may its compliance or information be used immediately for some specific purpose, or may remain unused for the time being and considered to be used any time later, if required, at the time of actual need.

Normally, since every person cannot be expected to be a pure linguistic, the terms are often used unmindful in exchange or substitution for each other. But, what actually is the requirement of use of each term  is very well understood by every other person for the purpose of fulfillment or compliance.
