The education system introduced by the British and the continuation of the convent education, Public school system and Peoples craze for English Medium schools is weaning away the children, the youth from the learning the local vernacular languages per se unless the home atmosphere is conducive to vernacular language like usage of local language at home. One finds that in most of the homes, a child is appreciated for reciting an English rhyme but scolded for reciting a vernacular poem. There was a hue and cry about deletion of Johnny Johnny What papa from the school curriculum in one of the Indian States with wide media publicity. Similarly one finds neglect of short plays, dramas, yakshagana, burra katha, harikatha and so on. One finds that many children and youth do not know the names of the mythological characters
