BUZZING ECONOMY, rocking stock market, improved business performances of the companies…you can find such catchphrases everywhere in media. In the present era of booming economy, every company wants to look young not only by adopting new technologies, new tools of productions, new modes of marketing but also by recruiting young and fresh professionals behind each tool, technology, service and production. We can say that this is good time for Young Turks!

However, the question arises whether companies are able to get the enhanced quality by leaving the old employees alone who are, in many cases, far away from their usual retirement age? On the whole, the cost reduction used to be the main motive behind hiring young staff at the cost of existing employee.

But on several occasions, it exerts pressure on the companies in the form of customer’s complaint till the time new staffs get experience in their jobs. Several banks launched the most recent Voluntary Retirement Schemes (VRS) because of the decision of cost reduction. Sometimes, in most of the firms particularly in software companies, the older staffs lose jobs in the name of quality improvement. Everyone knows that older professionals are also much capable to make good software programmes then why they lose their jobs in the hands of young professionals?

If all are interested in old employees what would be the future of young graduates...

I feel a new comer works more seriously than experienced one and his new ideolgies and vision will be more helpul in most of the cases.

I prefer to train a young one and mould it in my own requirement with proper training and mentoring

I completely agree with Manoj Ji on this....I belong to the Gen Y workforce & I also want that companies should give me & others the same importance as to the old employees. But this doesn't mean to ignore your old employees.....believe me you just can't. They are the ones on whose efforts you have build your business.

So, the best way out is to have a cooperative atmosphere where there will be a win-win situation.

Its true that Old brings rich experience with them,, but its becomes sometimes very difficult to change their outlook & attitude in accordance to changing requirements... In case of New Employees, they can be trained according to the specific requirements & in case of any changes, they r quite flexible as well...

New employees as in freshers? I'd rather train someone do a job the right way than have a person do a job the wrong way and spend more time on it. Those with experience also tend to have bad work habits.

Old employees having allround experience only can do better than new employees. If old employee is treated with repect by employer he will definitely give his best to the job.

As per my opinion it depends upon an individual, companies policy of giving incentives or promotion, and hunger to learn and grow.

New Employees are being preferred nowadays because the employers are more optimistic about their zeal towards the mission of the business enterprise. The employers normally believe that new employees can relatively easier to handle, transform and train. However, this may not be always true. There has to be an appropriate balance and experience has no substitute, therefore must always be respected.

But i strongly feel that a old employee can survive only if he can update his knowledge continuously, regarding his field, along with a novelty in his ideas.

Well stereotyping into Old employees or New employees is just wastage of ideas for a futile argument. It doesn't matter if the person concerned has the will, determination and drive To Learn & Unlearn,Accept innovative thinking, employ lateral thinking and be striving to become a better and thorough professional.Like the adage "Remuneration is not a restraint for Right Candidate"Talent,Commitment and ability never goes out of vogue,Nor does it concern Hiring managers and recruiters whether so called candidates are New or Old

well, young generation is the future but i do not agree with the point you made on thevision. The youth vision is quick money and not knowledge, they decide on the job by searching on Google ,the highest paid job and then they start chasing it, without realizing the actual path. Many want the so called "IT professional" Tag, just to fetch dowry. I have seen many cases of such kind. Today's generation is of the call center aptitude and behave as real Engineers. :)

Sameer I agree with you but at the same time the mantle to be passed to the new/young employee.

This is practically a cycle and all the new employee will becom old employee one day.

Old employers are preferred because they have experience can be self starters not requiring micro level support hence increased productivity

I support this sides views which are right approach. When new openings are there, the new entrants can be trained as per work culture of the organizations. Both are important in my opinion and this is because the old employees have also contributed to the growth of the organizations.

Thanks for the referral Mr.Manoj Kumar.

New Employee needs to adjust with the working environment first. It takes some time, and when time flows they become Old Employees. Hence proved, Only Old Employee works. :)

Old employees have a better knowledge of the organization culture and should be able to adapt to the changes in a better manner. However, new employees bring a fresh perspective and can be molded in a shorter period of time. Hence, an appropriate mix should be envisaged.

Thanks for the referral, Sameer....
