Starting around 2006, a new killer app for mobile phone handsets made its way into the Indian market, right under the nose of a mostly oblivious market leader. Starting with the grey market ‘China phones’, it grew to be the foundation that’s launched a slew of desi contenders. The smaller companies worked with vendors to create dual SIM handsets that could switch between CDMA and GSM and later between two GSM cards.

But it’s a reality that market leader Nokia is yet to react to. Its first dual SIM models C1 and C2 are still a few months away from launch. Dual SIM phones are growing at 40%, the fastest expanding segment in the category. It’s hard to ignore the increasing tide of opinion that suggests Nokia’s dream run in the country may be losing steam.

So users, do you think Nokia will be back on the track again?

Yes, I am sure Nokia will be again at its track. I am sure they will also come out with a competitive plan and prove Nokia is always best. Its my personal view that Nokia is fit for rough and tough use.

There is a challenge at the product level. It’s not that people don’t love the brand. But they want more from it and have been spoilt by the value end of the market. It is a high innovation, high failure business. They are facing competition from dual SIM phones, Spice, and other locallocal players with whom they are facing problems to match their price tags with. So I do't think Nokia won't be able to be back on the track again.

i would totally support a yes. as nokia is a long term player. one cannot term their fall by jz one fiscal yr. ppl buy nokia coz of their reliabilty. and thats one thing is the most necessary in mobile apart from othr tech features. as many players are now in market nokia is jz a way away from design an entire new strategy of launchin products. nokia will bounce back with juz a strategy of consumer persective and market survey.

sticking to the old saing "old is gold" we can say yes. but the way is very complex as because the range of telecom products are growing day by day. as a developing contry india goes for low price and more fatures which is being provided by other companies. as the cost of nokia product is high they have a very big task ahead to get to the top.

Recent decleration if implemented by Telecom Ministry will help to few competitors to capture the market, but will be tough to gain the old place.

My mind scores over my heart in this case. With more players and cheaper models having equivalent features now available in the market. Customers' way of thinking has also changed. They don't want to keep same model for a very long time. It is quite difficult for Nokia to turnaround things atleast for the time being.

PEOPLE HAVE "NO-KIA" TO NOKIA FOR BETTER, BECAUSE SONY ERICSSON,SAMSUNG,MOTOROLA,LG ETC ARE OFFERING GREAT FUNCTIONS, BETTER TECH,EXPENSIVE ACCESSORIES, LATEST SOFTWARE AT AFFORDABLE PRICES, WHEREAS NOKIA BECAME COMPLACENT OFF LATE AND THUS HAS PAID THE PRICE.

No way!!!  Mobile market has become a huge now with numerous players coming every fortnight/month.  Each will have its own share.  These new player's are bound to snatch users from existing ones only.

Gone the days when few like nokia, sony, moto, erricson, etc. was the players in small market size.

It can only happen if a merger and acquisition happens at large scale.  Till then it is difficult/impossible to retain its % market share, in spite of launch of any product lines/levels.

Thanks Sonal for referral.

When the market grow new players come in with the idea to beat the older players. The market for cell phones are growing but the growth is mainly in low cost handsets. As we see all new models that come into the market are mainly low cost with good features. So Nokia with it's high cost products will find it very difficult to get back the lost position

Thanks for referral, Sonal. You are correct because Samsung already launched Dual Sim phone long back with considering the masses & it also have some models for the class. & on this criteria Nokia is far behind & it's really tough for them to be on track.

I don't think Nokia will be able to make it's mark in Dual SIM market. The delays in release would throw Nokia in losses and they need to compromise on price tagging.Same is the case with smart phones too.

Nokia is not like as Windows enjoying advantage is Software and operating system market. Nokia is always known for aggressive marketing and user friendly approach and customization of product according to their local needs . so once it has come down now every companies are trying to rectifying their drawback and flaws even if you will compare with other cell phone makers you will find that other are giving much more than that at lesser price no gadget friendly people prefer I- phone and apple enjoys the advantage and other companies giving the hard core competition
